A guy at work has a M42 Browning .410 for sale & was wondering if $800 sounds like too much $ to pay. It is in brand new shape.

My book shows a $500 price difference between Grade 1 and Grade V. Only 2 Grades
Grade 1 100% is 695.00 This grade has a NZ882 suffix
Grade V 100% is 1195.00 This grade has a NZ982 suffix

The BB isn't reliable, valuewise, for all firearms and/or areas.

The B42 is worth every penny of the $800, in the condition you described.
