recoil spring replacement

I need to replace a recoil spring on a pistol (Melior 32 ACP). Is there any way of determining what spring from another type of gun will fit? Can you base it on the measurement of the diameter of the spring wire in the gun and find something similar?

Diameter of the wire, OD and ID of the spring, number of coils and free length. If you can find a spring that matches those dimensions, you should be good to go.
