Hi Folks. Hope everyone is staying safe during these difficult days. My Shiloh Sharps 74 in 50-90 has a 22 or 24 ROT according to the previous owner. I have read lots here about not getting accuracy with bullets less than 1.4 inches or so. My question is what kind of accuracy could I expect from the RCBS 50-515-FN bullet at 1.1 inch and 540 gr? I'll likely only shoot to 200 yds or so plinking and possibly hunting. Would it hold on a 4x4 sheet of wood at worst or minute of whitetail at best? I'd like to start out with a something under 600 gr but if I must go up I will. Thanks and regards.
Bill

I'd use the heaviest, longest bullet possible!

I've used it with great effect on moose. First bullet transversed the moose and retained 80% weight shot at about 25 yards. Second shot from above pulverized two vertebra and exited the bottom of his chest. The first one killed him but he got back up. I get good accuracy with 37 grains of 5744, can't get black easily in Southeast Alaska.Jim

You might be able to hold the 13" black 9 ring on a 200 yard SR-C target with that 1/22 twist using your bullet compared to a 1.5" Creedmoor nosed holding the 3" X ring at 200.
That's what mine showed when I tried a bullet a little over 1" long in my .50-2.5 Shiloh.

jdb3 Thanks for the reply. That's a great moose. I know you have some real giants in Alaska compared to our Ontario Eastern Moose. Good to hear you had success with that bullet.

Thank you Lead pot. I've greatly enjoyed reading your posts on the 50-2.5. I'll try that 540gr for now because that's the mould I have. If I get a chance to shoot a good distance I'll go with something in the 1.4 inch range as you suggest.
