Im pretty sure it will work but has anyone tried the Lee 401-175-tc boolit in the 38-40? I have lots of them already for my 40sw and 10mm pistols so I would like to give them a try in a Winchester 1892 38-40. The boolit doesn't have a crimp groove but it should work with a case full of power, maybe trailboss or another. I am never apposed to collecting another mold, but I already have this one so thought I would give it a try.

Yes, I had a uberti low wall in .38-40 and used that bullet in it with 7.5 grs of unique. I had very good results with it.

I had trouble with the bullets pushing back into the case when loading more than 2 or 3 in the magazine, even with very light loads. I broke down and bought an RCBS 180 CM. I can cast more than enough with it as I don't go through them like I do .40S&W.

Might not be helpful but IF you are interested I have 43 3840 empty cases de primed and wet tumbled. They are yours if you might want them Free Free Free.

Proly work with black powder but you need a crimp groove (dont just need it - gotta have it) for smokeless in a 92 - the RCBS Cowboy mold is ideal for the 38/40

....... should work with a case full of power, maybe trailboss or another......

A case full of Trailboss , that is enough Trailboss to support the bullet without a crimp would be disastrous, once. That would undoubtedly cause a spontaneous omni directional disassembly of your Winchester. Seriously, Trailboss is not a black powder substitute. Trailboss is a fast burning pistol powder that happens to be very fluffy. A case full of Trailboss would be akin to a case full of Red dot or Bullseye.

The O. P. and I were referring to acompressed charge of Trailboss that would support the bullet like black powder. Doing that would certainly cause extreme pressure and most likely firearm failure.
