it never crossed my mind that there was such a thing as brass that is only for blanks.

I would expect there would be "blank-only" brass made for the high-volume military calibers like 5.56, 7.62, 50 BMG etc--but 45 Colt? Total SWAG here, but maybe the 45 Colt blanks are used for some kind of signaling device or line-throwing apparatus.

How much bigger?

Could be a perfect "case" for wax boolit gallery loads (primer only).

The horse back cowboy shooters use blanks as they ride around shooting balloons, hence the availability of 45Colt blank brass. Its a bit tacky to ride around shooting bullets as the crowds tend to panic:)

Where's their sense of adventure? Appalling, that.

...The .45 Colt "blank" brass is used with a wax bullet, by the "western fast draw" competition. The larger flash hole allows more of the pressure, generated by the primer, to propel the bullet. Sometimes, a very small amount of black powder is used to create smoke for the visual effect. As stated, the brass is also used by the Mounted Cowboy Shooters.

...I would suggest you NOT use it, but instead, offer it for sale on the SASS web site.

At one time, there were "3 in 1" blanks made for the movie industry. .44-40, .38-40 and .45 Colt(?). Anyway, supposedly, this stuff fit all three. I've seen a few rounds of it at gun shows./beagle

9.3X62AL,

FYI: The Navy line throwing gun uses a blank that is very similar to the .45-70. It's a LOT longer than a .45 Colt case. The gun is a short-barreled(16-18"?), break-open single shot with a smooth bore and a big recoil pad.
