Anyone shoot lead in a stock M&P 40 shield?

Yes, I do. Why do you ask?

I just started to cast for my stock first generation M&P 40 shield, barrel slugged at .4015". I was able to fire off my first batch before the COVID-19 stay at home orders came out.

Lee 401-175-TC, as cast .403", homemade Lyman #2 (90/5/5), homemade NRA 50/50 (xlox/beeswax) and then tumbled in 45/45/10,
OAL 1.125"
Taper Crimp .422"
Herco, 5 rounds at 5.2gr, 5 rounds at 5.4, and 25 rounds at 5.6gr.

I had 3 failures to feed with the above loads. All rounds had passed "The Plunk Test".

I have loaded up three groups of twenty-five each at, OAL 1.105", 1.115", and 1.125" (control group). We will see if shorter rounds function better.

Or, I had a weak grip on my new "Plastic Fantastic" and that's why they jammed. It's a five year old gun, but the previous owner only put a few hundred rounds through it, so it is also still in it's break in period.

I cast a lot of 40 cal for both 40 S&W and 10 MM. I was looking for a compact pistol and was thinking about the glock 23, but I just saw a good price on the M&P... I know that with the glock, I'll buy it and get an afer market barrel... But I'm curious about the M&P. Does it have ballard rifling? Or that polagonal rifling?

I have a M&P 2.0 in 40 with a4.25 barrel. The grip angle is great along with the trigger. I haven’t shot jacketed bullets but it prefers cast sized to .403 or even a bit more. I’ve been using the Lyman 175 grain 401043.

I use the Lee 175 TC with conventional lube grooves in my plain jane Shield 40.

Thanks! This is good info. I found one at a pretty good price. Might just have to pick it up. :)

Powder coated here. It’s mostly all I shoot.

No problems.

Lee mold in mine. I had no luck with Power Pistol, I think it's too hot. Much better luck with Titegroup.

yup thousands through mine. About all of them either the lee 180 turnacute nose or a group buy round flat hp. both ran like butter. matter of fact I don't remember my shield in 40 or my two 9mm shields ever missing a beat with any ammo. I own a number of other M&Ps and Glocks and in my opinion there equally reliable.

Mine is not a 40 but a 9 and it likes lead better than Jacketed, my shooting buddy has two nines and a 45 and they all love boolits. No leading in any of them. I would think the 40 would do the same. Truncated cone noses and rn seem to be more forgiving on OAL. The 45 uses the same rounds with swc as we use in our 1911's.

I also shoot the Lee 175gr truncated cone.
And both of Rim Rock's 180gr bullets.
The Lee bullets are powder coated with
Eastwood Ford Valve Cover light blue.
I use 5.4 gr of Power Pistol and the
load runs 880-905fps in my Gen 1
Shield, SIG 229/226's and Kahr CM-40.
In the Kahr it is a hand full.

Friend has MP40 and had jam problems (jacketed every once in a while), tried my cast and still jammed every one in a while. Not limp wrist - sent back to get the disconnector fixed now it runs fine.
