I have never needed to do this conversion before and would like to know if it's possible to convert ft lbs to inch pounds. I have a torque wrench that measures foot pounds. So the question ... How many inch pounds in a foot pound. It couldn't be 12 could it? Thank you!

Thank you, So if the spec is 205 inch pounds it is also just over 17 ft pounds? I guess I need another tool, the foot pound scale doesn't go that low.

Yes that is right. That's also the reason for inch pound torque wrenches and trying to get a torque wrench that's not on the upper or lower edges of the range. They're not very accurate at either edge of the range.

A general rule for doing these conversions is to substitute your new units into your initial quantity. For example 205 inch pounds = 205 (1/12 foot) pounds = 17.08 foot pounds.

Is this a trick question?

Harbor Freight has an OK inch pound torque wrench for $11 on sale.
