Lee seating die??

I was loading some 9mm today and noticed that my seating die was a Redding.
WTH.... I lost my lee seating die. I have no idea what happened to it, but I need
to find another one post haste. The Redding die has a roll crimp instead of taper
crimp. I need the older die and not the carbide ones. Every vendor is sold out,
and I sure don't want to buy a whole set. Anybody have an extra they went to sell?

The bullet seating dies are not carbide that I am aware of.
Lee lists the individual dies on the Lee web sight they may have them or check on amazon.
I just looked at Titans sight they show them in stock..

Thanks onelight... I checked with Lee and there out of stock. I really don't
think they make that one anymore. All I can find are the ones with the
carbide ring at the bottom of the die. I checked Titans, and couldn't find it.

The one with the carbide ring is the FCD it is for post sizing and crimp only ( won't seat bullets)

yea, I know that.. I don't want the one with the carbide... I load
all cast bullets.

Have you checked on evilbay? If you are just using the die to seat - if you can't find a Lee then why not see if you can find a Lyman or RCBS seating die - the only thing you'd need to make sure of is that the seating stem is what you need - i.e. flat nose or round nose stem. You don't say what you are loading on - you mentioning hat your Redding die gives a roll crimp so I'm assuming that you are seating and crimping in the same operation? If you can't find a seating die - can you set your Redding die so it seats but doesn't crimp and then go with a separate 9mm taper crimp die? If so, it might be easier to find a 9mm taper crimp die? When I load pistol cartridges, I seat and crimp in two different operations - just what I prefer to do. If you can't find the Lee seating die you are looking for - you might try resetting your Redding to "seat only" and perhaps Dennis at Titan has a Lee 9mm taper crimp die or you could find one elsewhere?

I load a wide variety of pistol cartridges - the majority on Lee dies. Out of all the calibers though, I find the 9mm the most challenging - at one time I was loading for three different semi-autos - all three liked certain things. I haven't loaded any 9mm in a long time but I only loaded my own cast in a variety of grain weights and designs - i.e. truncated, round nose, etc. I found myself using the Lee carbide ring factory crimp die a lot of times in order to take out some occasional bulges and I finally just started running everything through it - all shot well in the three different pistols. I sometimes scratch my head as I have o issues loading 380 app - but the 9mm still gives me a headache once in a while. I chalk it up to "me" and not the dies though.

Good luck and hopefully you'll find the die you need. You could always put a posting for one in the WTS/WTS section and see if one turns up.

A roll crimp will also taper crimp. Just back it out until it's just engaging the taper portion of the crimp. It tapers first, then goes into a roll, on every roll crimp I've seen. One more thing, a 9mm die should only taper crimp.

OK Guys... Thanks for all the replies. First off let me explain some things.
Billy.. I'm 78 years old and have been reloading for almost 50 years and
have loaded thousands of rds of 9mm without a hitch for a long time.
I started to load some 9's the other day and noticed the seating die in my
set.It's really a Pacific die and not a Redding. Some how it got out of
adjustment and was starting to put a slight roll crimp on it. My other dies
are Lee, and I don't know what the hell I did with the Lee seating die, but
I can't find it. jimkim... Your right about the die taper crimping first as I've
been doing it for years. I just forgot I guess. It's hell to get old. I've loaded
on these same dies for years for 5 or 6 different 9mm handguns with no
problems, so I'm sorry for putting you guys thru all this trouble. Thanks
for the replys. PS: Billy, I see you did some traveling.
