I have a bit of WC860. Would this be useful for a 150gr Sierra SP in a 270 Winchester?? Any ideas on starting loads?? Speed??
Thanks
Jeff

It'll work. See if you can find H870 or AA8700 load suggestions.

...............A full caseload of WC860 in the 6.5x55 Swede (M38, 24" bbl) with a 140gr Hornady SP delivered 2700 fps. The bullet was seated to engrave. Superb accuracy and burned very clean.

A casefull in the 7x57 Mauser with a Rem C-L 175gr PSP delivered 2450 fps (M98/08 Brazilian, 29" bbl). Again it was very accurate, and burned as clean as factory ammo.

Your 270 (.277") is between those 2 in bore ID, but has a larger case capacity then either example. I would load the case to 90%, with the bullet just off the lands. Things should be jake, and if so re-load and put the bullet into the lands, if this is how your rifle shoots best.

I'm sure you can go to a full case, but I'm certain you know about being a smart safe reloader and all that. I'd think you'd probably end up with that 150gr slug going about 2850 (ish).

Quickload shows 60gr of H870 with the 150gr sierra yielding 2500 fps from a 24 inch tube. Not exactly a barn burner of a load but should make venison all the same.

Well I just got back from the range and the new 270 went bang it actualy shot under 1 moa . But it was to windy to chrono I know that sounds crazy but when you have to keep hold of your spotting scope and a empty hard rifle case try to leave the bench it will blow my chony over so who knows how fast but it was good any how .
