I have come here looking for advice.

Is there anywhere I can get a mould for a .38 long colt heel load bullet. Also for the .41

NEI's 213 and 214 have the heel running about 2/3rds. of the bullet, way too much for the bullet to stabilize. I didn't know that when I picked one up on eBay, but Buckshot opened it up so that only about 1/4 of the shank is heeled. Works fine that way. BTW, the NEI 193A is the inside lubed hollow based version for the .41 Colt, designed to fit inside the case and the base to expand to the barrel diameter. I don't have that one yet, so I can't tall you how it works. It would need to be cast very soft.

Thank you all for such fine responses.

I never expected to be answered so quickly.

Only just thinking about getting a 38 conversion for my pietta 1851 clone. Didnt want to get the barrel sleeved to .357 so I was checking out the availability of the real bullet for it.

As to the .41

one of my dreams is to own an 1877 in this caliber. They sell here in NZ for about $800NZ

When I do get it it will be used on the range.

I have the Colt Army in 41LC that was made in 1906. Remember that this caliber/case was designed as a short range man stopper, and nothing else. Beyond about 15 yds. you don't expect much accuracy. I'm happy that my bullets are hitting the target nose on @ 25 yds!

I have Lyman's three molds made for the .41LC. The heel based boolits ar to put in mildly a PITA to load. HarryO who posts on this forum is the garu when it comes to loading .41LC. I have a friend in Arkansas who is going to make me a bullet crimper out of wire cutters to crimp the boolits. I have to order a sizing die to reduce as cast boolits down to around .401 so the boolits will chamber. Righ now I force the loaded boolit through my sizing die which gets the boolit head down to around .386. Accuracy is no heck but then the .41LC ws never an Olympic cartridge. LOL. This is the only way I can put any kind of "crimp" on the boolit so it will stay put. Shooting the .41LC is a laboour of love and I wish you well.

One piece of advice I did get from HarryO was to watch the forcing cone. The old colts focing cones were pretty thin and some break/chip off from use of mercury based primers over the years.

Stay Safe
