Lately I've been wanting to make a scoop to measure 30grains of 3f at the range when shooting my 1860 Army. Like a lot of long time reloaders, I've got various odd's & ends of brass laying around so I thought maybe I could find one that was close. Last night I finally got around to searching through my random pieces of brass and found that a 45ACP when filled completely holds 30 grains of 3F! I guess this isn't news to most of you but it was fun for me to find this out.:-D:-D

To get where I wanted to be for loading BP by volume in .45-70,
I kept cutting off rings from a plastic 12ga hull until it weighed out right.

Put the weighed amount in, look in there to measure the cut, dump,
cut it off, dip it full, weigh that, and keep trimming & repeating, a little at a time, until its just right.

With a few inches of masking tape, I even made a handle for it.

A few times I've forgot my measure (now tied right to the bag), and used a 45 acp brass as a measure. At the time I had great luck with three cases in the rifle. I have not shot that rifle since that day. Now I know I can continue my load work up from 90 grains. Thanks.

A simple wire handle can be twisted up and wrapped around the case then soldered on. I use coooer wire leage a loop and twist with a drill notor to a stem about 2-3: long wrap the 2 ends around the case 2-3 wraps each and solder in place.

To twist the stem with a drill motor make a wood form the size and shape of the loop, form around it and put the ends of the wire in the chuck for this it dosnt need to run true. Slowly run the drill motor to twist the stem to length. Wrap ends around case separately flux and solder in place. When flux is cleaned up toss it in the case policher over night. Corn cob media will make it shine overnight

This makes a nice stem easy to hold and use.
