Someone is asking me which top punch should be used for the 90487 (.429 hollowpoint). I don't have one of those moulds myself, but from the pictures I've seen it would appear to be more suited for tumble-lube or powdercoating. Is that a safe assumption to make?

I've got the mold, it would work with lube but I PC everything ---- well occasionally when I'm doing a large batch of boolits (35 pounds or more I'll dig out my HiTek )

I'd use a flat top punch for these (I'm looking at a bag of them right now) :)

Thank you, Conditor22, is there any particular reason that would suggest NOT to use a SWC top punch for them?

Usually the SWC top punch , such as made by Lyman for Lyman designed boolits don't perfectly fit the boolits Lee moulds cast ...not all SWC's are exactly the same ... ergo , use a flat punch...flat is flat and fits any boolit with a flat spot on the nose .
Lee doesn't make any top punches for their moulds and that's where the problem is .
Fill an extra punch with epoxy putty , let cure and sand flat...flat punch that can be , if needed, be converted back to original profile .

It would seem, then, that any SWC top punch that is wide enough to accommodate the meplat should work even without modification. Am I missing something?

that should work, I use hot melt glue and make my own top punches that fit perfectly ----- but I don't lube anymore
