Howdy. Been a Winchester shooter for most of my life and a sucker for straight wall cartridges, I was looking for peoples thoughts on this Marlin rifle. I realize Marlin had some issues in the past but have had some clarity on the newly made ones. It’s brand new probably last year and from a dealer. I just haven’t had much experience with Marlin.
I will basically be only shooting cast out of it.
Anybody’s input on this rifle will be greatly appreciated.
Don’t know why I have had a recent interest in this caliber, as I shoot a multitude of other straight wall cartridges but I know it’s been around for a long time. Just looking for something new to play around with.
Thanks again and look forward for peoples input!

Going from a Winny to a Marlin, be careful, don't shoot your eye out.

I like the few of them I have.

If you are so inclined to disgrace a lever action with a scope, they're a little handier on the side ejecting Marlin.

I don't really like my Marlin 1894S. I hope yours is a better rifle.

In the past, pre Remlin days, they were know for having short throated chambers. Need to be careful choosing a mould.

My Marlin 444 has always liked cast boolits and even shoots (+feeds) plain base SWC's well at low velocity. For the easy loads, I use 5744 and plain base boolits for a velocity of about 1200 fps. For stiffer hunting loads, I have found it shoots both 240's RFGC's and 310 gr RFGC's well with 4198, 3031, and Re-7 powders to get about 1800 fps.
