any one heard of this case. A friend Of mine sent me a Set Of dies . Dies marked 6.5 K Mag. No manufacturer . Claims he has a rifle
It is a belted Case.
I checked On the CH4D site . and there is one listed. I spoke to Denny there and his prints show It's not Belted. but these dies show a Belt
any one have info.

Just a wild guess, but maybe it is a wildcat based off the 224 ,240 or 257 weatherby.

I'm going to have a guess at it too. Maybe the K is for Kurtz. Short 6.5 round made on a belted Mag case. I have a set of loading dies that are stamped 27 A.W.S.M.. They were made by RCBS. When I called them they said they had no idea what it was. Their best guess was that it was a custom, ordered set of dies and that they don't keep information on custom made dies. It turned out to be a 250 Savage case opened up to take a .270 bullet with no other changes.

I think a few weeks back some guy from down under on one of these threads was taking about his Sav 99 in a 27/250 wildcat. I've never heard of it, sounds cool.

I have been playing with this for a week . It is a short magnum and based off a 300 H&H base or win mag case. I am going to Try a Casting to get Better Results

That sounds like the 6.5 Rem Mag...

Could the K be an R, or is it clearly a K?

Sounds Like a 6.5 Rem Mag, cases can be made from 7mm Rem Mag cases, PM me if you want more info, I have a 6.5 Rem Mag and make my cases from 7. mm Mag cases and can run you through all the steps, tooling and part numbers you will need.

There was a 6.5x61 based off of one of the Sharpe & Hart cases, I think. There was an article in one of the recent Rifle magazines on it.

I'll see if I can dig it up tonight.

6.5 Remington Mag; one of the two original Short Magnums. I liked the one I had, flat and accurate. Mine had a 26” barrel and it delivered on velocity, too.

To continue This , I made cases from the dies supplies. but it is not 6.5 Rem mag. i have enclosed a photo of the result. The loaded cartridge is a factory 6.5 Rem mag. the other is the result Of the forming and trim
Any Guessed

In Cartridges of the World there is section the lists cases by their dimensions. You need the rim diameter, base diameter length of case from base to shouldr, length from base to neck, neck diameter, rim thickness. With these numbers you might find that case in there.
If you had fired cases it might be better for the measurements. That way your getting the chamber of the rifle, not the die.

I might even get a chamber cast, this way you will get a better idea of the case length.

After I read through this thread and seen the picture next to the 6.5rem mag I went and looked at my COW and there's no belted mag shorter than the Rem mag mine is the 8th edition

It looks like the OAL of the brass is the same. I don't know why they would have pushed the shoulder back and reduced case capacity. My guess would be that the cal pre-dates the 6.5 RM. It is nice to know, that other than the Sweeds and Finns, the the 6.5 got some love BEFORE the hype of the creedmoor came along.

The 270 on a 300 Savage case is known as the 270 Titus. I don't know how different it would be than the 250 Sav case.

All dies Loading and forms and trim are only marked with 6.5 K mag The forms also have 375, 30, on each. Trim is marked 6.5 K trim. there is no manufacturer on the dies. They look very early manufacturer. Similar to 1950's RCBS or Pacific. All steel even Lock rings I have been looking through all My cartridge books but No luck

Another wild guess. Maybe it was someone's idea to build a magnum from a 6.5 jap or swede.

Wild guess time. Since you said the dies look like they are from the 1950's, my guess is the 375 and 30 is meant to designate the parent case.

Until Winchester brought out the .458, .338, and .264 Win Mags in the later part of the 50's there weren't many belted cases readily available. I think all of the others were wildcats or semi wildcats from the .375 H&H and Super .30, aka .300 H&H.

Depending on the rifle, it should make a decent open country deer and antelope rifle.

That is what i thought in my first forming . I started with a 375H&H, and proceeded with the other die and trim. The case in the Photo is the end result. Unknown
