Well it's a gloomy day , so I took a look at the arsenal ( fancy name for old guns ) and decided to make this a wipe down with oil day . I do this a few times a year generally it's a good excuse to fumble with a few neglected firearms .
Just a simple oil rag wipe on the exterior keeps everything in good shape .
Just a reminder peep in the cabinet , safe , closet , under the bed or whatever you keep them .

Good advice. Hate to see firearms that have been neglected.

Amen!

I have taken up the same habit of periodic inspection and wipe down.

I started after carrying guns under the bed in my RV on a multiple year trip. I was shocked at what I saw. Evedince of substantial condensation and a bit of rust. Enough that a couple had to go to the gunsmith for blueing touch up.

Now they all come out of the safe from time to time to get handled and loved.

The only downside is the look that my Wife gives me when she sees the dining room table covered with guns :)

Soft gun cases are moisture traps. I get several rusted guns a year to clean up and most have been stored in a zipped up soft case. If that's what you have to do, open the zipper a bit to store it. I keep several guns in my metal shop and I police them often for rust. The ones seldom used get a wiping with RIG grease.

I finally got modern and got me one of those Hoppes bore snakes in 30 cal. Seems to work pretty good. Also used it in my 32 Smith&Wesson revolvers.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to get out all the rifles that are in the rear of the safe and check & wipe down. I hope I don't find rust. I do keep desiccant in the safe and have a goldenrod plugged in. The desiccant gets taken out and dried out at least once a year. It is the type that turns pink when it is saturated. I've never found it completely pink.

I enjoy fondling firearms.

Me too.
I don't read the gun comic books any more, so periodic cleaning is all I have to do and still watch gun porn.

I got carried away , and spent some time fondling a few molds also after spending quality time with a few firearms that needed affection . I am looking for a reason to take out some shotguns that need fresh air & a walk .
Pop cans , pine cones and such no living creatures need attention right now .
