Recently I was reloading some factory(I know cast only) 9mm rounds.i didnt realize my seat depth had managed to move and I was sweating at 1.086 as opposed to the 1.169 my manual says I need to be at. Will the difference In 100 thousandths cause an issue pressure / safety wise?

It'll have some more pressure, but if you're not right up that at max. load, it shouldn't be some dangerous sort of deal.

I'd shoot one, look for a pressure sign, and go from there.

If you're not comfortable with that, run 'em through a kinetic puller
to ease them out a little and re-seat to the specified length.

i think the way he posted is that the bullets are seated at 1.086 which is not down to the 1.069 the manual says.....right?

if that's the case he may have issues with the slide not going into full battery because of the overall length being too long.

that's how i read the o.p.

That’s right at .080 thousands. What powder did u load with? It should be ok but if your at or close to max loads already in a 9mm it might be a little hot.

what bullet and what load?

Unless you ran the exact bullet the manual used and ran it right out to the maximum, I would try one, assuming you are talking a quality 9mm. Overall length isn't what we actually need to know, it is how much farther in the case the bullet is compared to what the manual tested. Nose shapes can vary considerably. A pointier bullet might be in the case even less than the one tested, and pressure might be down.

I used winchester autocomp and I'm around the middle of the load data.

It's supposed to be at 1.169 and I'm seated too deeply at 1.086

What do you mean by reloading factory rounds?

Which bullet are we talking about? Be as specific as possible.

How much powder? Unless you give the details of what happened we can only take wild guesses.

Unless you’re using a round nose bullet you’ll never get a 9mm load at 1.169. Many flat nose bullets are seated in the 1.06 to 1.10 range. Even most RN bullets don’t go all the way out to 1.169.

ahhh ....you lost me at "sweating it" now i know you meant "seating it"

I did that once on 50 rounds. No problem as I used a kinetic puller to NOT dislodge bullet but bump it out a few thousandths. Only takes a whack or two. Went back and seated properly. Goes faster than you think.

SAAMI standard specifications on 9mm OAL are:

Min 1.095
Max 1.169

You were just a shade under minimum length

With M882 9mm service ammunition cracking the Black Lucas sealant and seating bullets only 1mm deeper resulted in a pressure increase from 38,000 psi to 62,000 psi, exceeding proof pressure. The Speer manual contains similar warnings.

I WOULD PULL THEM ALL!!!!

My son, when he first started reloading, managed to get some 40 s&w loads about .060 short from his desired length. This happened because of lube build up in the seating die. He was using unique and loading at or near max. The result was interesting. It didn't destroy his 96 Beretta, but it did partially disassemble it. Needless to say the cart. case wasn't reusable.

Pends in the gun whether or not I'd try to shoot them. If you're running them through a glock 17 or a Ruger p95, I'd shoot one and see how it felt. If you're running them through a hi power, I'd pull them with an enertia puller a bit and re seat them.

Put 'em back to spec, otherwise be considerate of others and don't shoot them when others are on the line. It's one thing to hurt yourself, but another thing to hurt others.

Me too! The 9mm is a pretty high pressure cartridge, with not much room for powder. Things can go bad fast.

There's a warning in the current RCBS manual about 9mm. A 0.030 change in seating depth more than doubled pressure.

I'd pull them.

You won't have an issue with the load. If they feed reliably your good to go

I had the same thing happen yrs ago , about the same dimensions as you posted . I had a box of 50 . I only have one 9mm , a Ruger P89 . Went to the private range with them , no problem what so ever . They fed and fired just fine , no problems for the Ruger either . They were 124gr plated bullets loaded on top of Ramshot Zip , a max load . I'm not trying to suggest what to do , just adding my experience . Regards Paul
