RCBS .452 - 185 SWC BB, What's your favorite load for a 45 ACP?

Just cast and coated a bunch of these, looking for a good starting place IE what powder and charge worked best for you.

I'll use your favorite loads as a median charge [IF it fits in the parameter of load manuals safe ranges.] and work up and down from there.

I don't have ZIP ( the recommended best load) or N320

Otherwise, I'll have to start at the top and work my way through the powders in .2 grain increments then narrowing it down by the loads nearest the best groups I get.

5 grains of Bullseye is easy to remember and has worked for me for decades.

With 185's I load 4.0 Clays, clean and accurate.

I like the TiteGroup load Jim...been using it for years, just haven't shot any lightweights in my 1911, most likely will not either.
Meters very well, burns clean & seems like it's always on the shelf out here.

3.8 gr. WST. It's a light target load and darned accurate. I had to switch out the recoil spring for a 12 lb.

I shoot a lot of that same RCBS boolit, and also load it with the 4.0 grains of Clays. I don't powdercoat though, just regular lube.

5.5 gr. of Unique. I know it isn't listed in that Lyman manual, but it will give you 750 to 800 fps, and if you are punching paper that is all you need. If you don't have Unique 4.5 of Red Dot works just about as well. It is also a wonderful small game load, and while a lot of folks say it isn't hot enough for defense I sure as heck would not want to get hit with it. Brodie

Jeebers, that manual has pretty stiff starting loads. Want something pleasant? 3.5 700x or bullseye, 4.2 ww231, 3.8?wst. They will likely need a lighter recoil spring.

You didn't state whether you had optics on the slide and what recoil spring but 3.5 BE should run it all with a 10# spring.

For that weight boolit, I use 4.0-4.3 of either Bullseye or WST. It functions my 1911 and my Springfield XDm with stock factory springs. Very accurate and easy to shoot.
