Don't hear the term much these days, but the old hunting guns still have a place in the rifle shooters battery. Planning this years winter hunt for wild pigs. Just trying to decide which of the old guns I should take? I'm thinking the "super Snider" with it's 620gn boolit and 95gns FFG would be fun!

L to R: 38/55, 40/65, 45/70, 50/70, 577 Super Snider and 22 Hornet

The Super Snider is accurate for pigs, 10 shots at 75yds.

Bigger is better! That 577 is cool. What sort of rifle is it used in? Too long for a regular Snider.

I'd go with the Super Snider too!

The Super is built on a Martini Henry action with a new 30" Lothar-Walther barrel. The case is the same as a standard Snider, just that with a stronger action you can fill the case with 95gn of BP.

Now that we have a modern barrel of known dimensions (.575/.585") and a faster 1:48" rate of twist, then projectiles cast at 0.588" can be used. Best fun project I've had in 50years of shooting.

Neat! Sounds like a fun one. And should roll a pig pretty well.

I would try to line up two or three close together with their chest cavities in line. You might get lucky and bring home a bunch with little expenditure of lead and powder. Good luck. Brodie
