I recently acquired a Belgian revolver marked "44" and "DF" with an arrow through it (Dumoulin Freres). I thought I would work up a light light load for it. It seems to be chambered in 44-40, although throat measures as .450. Barrel slugs at .422. This is an unhappy situation. I don't want to shoot it a lot, so am thinking of loading with a full case of FF BP , lubed wad, then a .423 (or as close as I can find) round ball. What would you do? Thanks, Bob

Ach, incorrect terminology - the area ahead of the case in the chamber measures .450, not the throat. Bob

I looked at Midway. They have .422 swaged boolits:

But if it was me, I'd still relegate it to display status even with black powder.

Agreed. It's a DA only design, so not a target gun by any means. I'd like to shoot it once, then put it away. I did find some conical bullets in my pile of stuff that I think I will try. Thanks

I'm pretty sure that it is still called the throat. ;)

I'm wondering if a hollow base bullet would work better for your revolver? And shoot a very soft cast bullet also.

Have a .424 round ball mould that might work if you want a few light plinking loads. Never figured what that mould was deigned for but it makes nice RB loads in the .44 Magnum when "bumped up" to .429./beagle
