i was able to get the case out and then noticed the EXTRACTOR IS GONE!
i have to go back to the range and look for it.

Wouldn't waste much time looking, it is probably totally trashed.

Did it damage the bolt when it departed?

Hmm, interesting that they assume that it will headspace the same as the old bolt without checking. Personally, I would cut some shims from soda cans, or something, and see if they fit with a dummy round, or empty case. Put the shim between the head of the case, and the bolt face, and see if you can close the action.

Prolly like a Sig pistol-- everything is MFG'd and checked to specification, so no 'fitting' is needed.

to tell the truth.
i will try them both and see which one is smoother.
if there is even a difference.
i love this rifle and was pretty upset when this mishap occurred.

i am not worried about it.
i have a feeling they know what they are doing.[smilie=l:

Pretty good service. I think that is just a tad beyond "normal wear
and tear". [smilie=1:

Good news is you were not hurt. As much as it is a real PITA, a gun
can be fixed or replaced. Eye and fingers are a lot harder to replace.

Sorry to hear that. We just shot a 44 mag case in the brass we got from Colo. The brass was mixed in with the 45 Long Colt brass. The gun looks OK though.

Don't feel too bad. My friend shot several rounds of .44 mag ammo in a .45 Ruger Vquero. It did no damage.

i just went through my range bag AGAIN.
sure enough 1 .44 in a sack of .45l.c.
i need to be really diligent about keeping these separate.
as a matter of fact i am considering not bringing both calibers of guns/ammo to the range anymore.

I dropped a 44 mag in my SAA but thankfully it was a tad to long, could have been a disaster as the 44 was loaded with 23gr H110. I don't think that the Taurus would take that load. I no longer have a 44 mag so it makes it a lot easier.

Why don't you get a real big red permanent texta pen and colour in the bases of the 44 mags, maybe even do a colour band around the case body at the base near the rim. That would make them stand out.

I am going back to shooting45pistols and 44/40 rifle in cowboy action. I mark the 44s and for reloads of the 45s on the clock, I carry a few nickle cases on my belt. If brass comes up i know I have a 44/40, I discard it and try again.

If I shot both 44 mag and 45 LC, I'd use nickle plated brass for one and brass brass for the other one.

I went through the brass after that and found 6 44 mag casings the fella sent me.

My 44's get painted with nail polish on the primers, red for warm 820 loads, green for the green dot 1000 fps loads. 45's don't get any sealant whatsoever. Gianni

I shoot both 45lc and 44 mag. I keep the two apart by using different bullet shapes in the different cartridges. I use the same method to keep high powered Ruger ammo out of my Colt 45s. It is a good excuse to buy more molds.

I've seen 44 mags shot in 45 LC 92 clone and no problems except it wouldn't stay on paper at 25 yards.
