I told my wife that once. She laughed and laughed! A sense of humor is important...

Doesn't last rifle simply mean most recent rifle? That's kinda the way my mind works anyway.

I really really need a 1858 that shoots .429 diameter boolits so I can have a caseless .44 Special.
Maybe it could be my last. Really.

I don't see why you couldn't do that, but it would be a lot of work just to have slightly skinnier bullets.

"Bought my last rifle" are words I will say along with "I love you" to my wife as I take my last breaths.

Uh-huh, yeah, right. Reminds of the farmer whose neighbor told him, "Bill, you want to own ALL the land." To which Bill replied, "Nope, just the land next to me."

Well, you can believe me when I say "I also bought my last rifle".

A few of the others were given to me, but yep, the last one I bought.
I'll probably have to buy the next one too.

When I turned 68, I told myself I was done buying hunting rifles. I had 1 favorite rifle and that would be it. I'm now 69 and have added 3 lever actions and 2 muzzleloaders to the pile. But, I'm done buying!!!!!

I promised my wife no more old cars so she ignores all the gun stuff.

And Wallace’s blanket resembles my accumulation (hate to dignify it as my collection)

Something desperately satisfying when you see a weapon that speaks to you ... and at the same time you realize that by maneuvering some things around to your satisfaction ... that you can " ( afford )" to buy or trade into it.

This rush is still as vivid to me as was the first one. What a fun and satisfying pastime. When they begin reading the FFL records for confiscation ... I will be in big trouble. That will be a rush of another kind and time.

Never say never ... life is uncertain ... eat desert first !!!

I even barred myself from the local gunshop for three months so someone else could take that lever gun away ------wandered back in one day and there it was hangin on the wall .....just waiting..................................I really needed an 1886 ........durned rabbits in the vege patch!!!!!

I think the OP has a flinter…. click on the last photo in post #1.
But your are missing a none factory long barreled rifle. Even a smoothbore Trade Gun will make your hunting so much more enjoyable.

Only thing I can figure is we better send a warning out to gun shows and gun shops that a bunch of BP junkies are planning on taking up shoplifting rifles.

I have a limited list of firearms I would buy. Limited by my imagination, "I could see myself shooting that". And my finances, wife "can't see how we can afford to" see me shooting that.

Really I do have a short list of specific types or calibers I would like to own before I die. Most are nothing special. I do have a flint lock in that list. Possibly a smooth bore that shoots big old honking round balls. :-) A couple of lever guns, a couple of pistols and maybe a bolt gun (or two) then I will be able to if not be believable at least keep a straight face when I say "I'm done buying..." any item related to this hobby at all.

I lost credibility when I had 2 tons of lead and said I can probably slow down buying more unless it is a "special" deal. Being at 5k pounds a month later... sort of blew my credibility on the done buying thing, just a bit. But it was some good stuff and the price was sweet and...

BTW - I really like that pistol in the OP does anyone have a good idea of what it is?

The pistol is a mountain pistol, lyman/cva/traditions all have made a version at some time.

I've found a good rule of thumb I use to limit the number of firearms I own.
I ask my wife to pick a number between 17 and 35, I then multiply that by my age. That's my limit.
I'm 70, so I'm OK with this. You may have to pick a higher number.

Aaahhhh.....this is the muzzleloader forum.
The same rules apply to this second category.
