44 Cal Round Balls

I am going to cast my own .44 cal round balls for my Traditions 1858 Remington New Army .44 Cal Steel Frame, 12" Oct. Barrel Buffalo I am saving up to buy I am very excited about casting my own I have always wanted to but just never got into it but I am now fellas I won't be able to shoot those conical bullets in my 1858 because that said it the rifling are for round balls is this true

I hope you enjoy it cap and ball revolvers are a lot of fun to shoot.
All of mine seemed to shoot better with round balls but some shot very good with boolits.

It may or may not shoot bullets well. The only way to know for sure is to try a few. Cast your own round balls for sure, to try boolits I would buy a few different styles to try them. If any work well then get a mold for the one that works the best.
Hope you have a good source for pure lead or at least very soft.

Traditions revolves are mfg. by Pietta. Their cylinders are usually .450". Most shooters use. 451 " balls. I found that .454" balls sealed the chamber better and gave a longer bearing surface, thus slightly better accuracy. I found conical bullets difficult to seat straight in the chamber.

As a new caster, remember to use pure lead, if the lead is to hard, you can bend or break the loading lever.

My pistols always shot better with round balls. The conical shot just ok and are a pain to load. If you want to try the conical out you might have better luck with then than I did

The Lee black powder conicals were the easiest to load straight of any that I tried .
But round balls really did all I needed target , plinking and small game.
