Hello all,
Just curious, anyone shot cast through a Magna-ported rifle barrel? Any detrimental effects? I have a 338 Winchester magnum which was ported when I bought it. I shoot with very mild jacketed loads so far. Hoping to find success with cast.
Any experiences?
Thanks,
Rick

Tho only MagnaPort experience I have is with a 6 1/2" M-29. In only a few shots, my front sight was sooted over and the ramp accumulated a coating of deposited lead, which was a pain to remove. The ports also had a lot of lead build up, which was even harder to get at. That made me aware that a lot of lead was in the discharge vapor, which I did not want to breathe.

I predict that a rifle would be better behaved and that gas checks would reduce this annoyance.

My M29 8 3/8" Mag na Port gets a blackish front sight from burning W296 & Unique, no lead on sight. Easy clean up for me. Plain base bullets.

Have pro ports on a 12 ga. works ok.

I shoot nothing but cast in a Magnaported 375 JDJ Contender pistol. 250 gr. GC at 2000 fps. No residue in the ports but a bit of soot above the ports.

I've shot cast in a Marlin 45-70 and a Ruger M77 .338 Win.Mag oh and a Model 700 .350 Rem. Mag. The Marlin will grab a touch of lead on one of the top ports, it never seemed to matter and it brushed out easily.

I have 5 handguns + one rifle magnaported cast bullets are no problem! in a handgun the sides of the front sight base get a little carbon and lead build up but is easy to remove the build up.

I shoot cast GC'ed through a ported .450 Marlin. No issues.
