I am puttering around today, and decided to mount a scope that I have been wanting to try on my 223 Henry Single shot.It is an old Weaver Challenger Variable, and it has a lot more tube in front of the adjustment housing than behind.I have it mounted, but both rings are in front of the adjustment housing. Is this likely to be an issue with vibration,or flex with recoil,or is it alright...I appreciate all opinions...Thanks

While not Ideal, I dont think you'll have a problem with .223 class recoil on that set up. Time and rounds downrange will let you know.

You should be fine with t like that. Get the best spacing you can. Lock rings on base/rail. Then lap to true alignment and mount scope. Lapping the rings will help ncrease the holding power allowing the full surface to work not just the high points. If your still concerned a light wipe of rosin inside the rings will help a lot.

Thanks Country Gent,I had it out yesterday, and done a little shooting .The scope tracked great, and I encountered no shift in point of impact, but I did not shoot a lot..256951

What about an 'extended' ring for the rear? It looks like one would fit.

That's an idea.I switch scopes way too much, but it gives me an excuse to shoot,so I guess that's a good thing.

Wow, that's a longer tube than I've ever dealt with. As said, there are offset rings that may work for this, but that honestly does not look bad to me.
