I am having an itch to rebarrel my M70 Featherweight
and was thinking of going with Hart barrels
Have any of you used them or know anything about them?
I usually go with Pac-Nor but they won't be back in production till July :Fire:

I used Hart over the coarse contour stainless on my pre 64. Also installed a tubbs speed lock and jewel trigger in a tubbs stock. Hart is a very good barrel and used to be the standard in bench rest and high power. Also you might look at krieger, Lilja Mcgowen. What caliber are you planning on? What weight bullets? length and contour?

I have used two for bench rest. One in the .222 and the other for a .22 hornet. I don't think you can find a better barrel made.

If you went with a 1-12 then you might be able to use a 65gr ish bullet.

Don't forget Brux, Bartlien and Shilen select match.

I will say this when our dads and grandfathers were dong this a good hummer barrel was to be cherished ( moa or sub moa) Now a barrel from one of the upper end makers is as good or better than the last. Boots Obermeyer made some great barrels and also pioneered the 5r rifling profile. Hes gone now and wait time was close to a year, AMU bought up most of his production.
In 220 swift with 55-65 grn bullets loaded to full power the barrel will be short lived. The throat will go fast.
I have a No 1V in 220 swift ( ruger barrel) hat was 3/4 moa new it went 2000 rds to minute of wood chuck LOL.

I have built numerous accuracy rifles using barrels from most of the different aftermarket barrel makers. They are all generally excellent and will give comparable accuracy performance. Choose the best twist rate to work well with the bullet size which you are most interested in loading.
I have found the Lothar Walther barrels to be excellent and in my experience they will " live" longer . They seem more resistant to burning out in the throat .

Got a 270 cal. M70 FW myself in '90 and settled on 150 gr. Nosler Partitions on many game ( X * 100's of hogs too) these past 30 years. What caliber is your current barrel? Beautiful lines and Schnabel fore end stock. It's purdy...

Have you considered Bench Mark?
A had one of their barrels put on a Ruger action.
I had it chambered for 221 FB.
It`s the most accurate barrel I have.
Price is comparable to Pac Nor...dale

The Benchmarks are great barrels, I have a 30"bull with very little taper on my 6.5x284, and it has been a screamer from day one. It shoots 1/2 MOA out to 1100yd, the furthest I have tried it. I also have some Krieger CBI barrels, their button rifle barrels, and they are some of the most accurate barrels I have ever used. My pet 6xc shoots into .358 for 5 shots@ 250yds, I cant shoot that good, but it makes me look good. You can save yourself about $200 bucks and I guarantee you will be pleased.

You won't go wrong with a Hart barrel. I'm a Krieger fan myself, just because of having good experience with them. The 1-14 twist is a good choice for varmint weight bullets.

Back in my high power days, I've had barrels from Obermeyer, Krieger, & Hart. All performed well. Steve Satern in Iowa makes a great barrel too.

Ive burnt up a few krieger barrels shooting NRA high power. My M1As wore them. M ARs have kiegers, and a lilja on them my match rife wore a hart otc contour. This rifle did double duty Across the course and long range. Other rifles have shilen ( a martini cadet in 218 bee) a pac nor ( savage in a long range wildcat 6.5 mm) a garand with a med heavy douglas 308 barrel. MY BPCR rfles are douglas, green mountain, mcgowen, badger and a BRC barrel by Al Story
All are very good barrels some are cut rifled some broached some are button rifled. I also have a Winchester wearing a hammer forged barrel thats a very good performer.
