I've got a savage 22/20 gauge over and under that has been abused on several levels. At some point the lug separated and mr shade tree welded it right back up with his stick welder. He did no prep work, no pre heat and probably let it air cool before he cleaned it up with an angle grinder. He didn't get enough weld penetration and both sides of the welds failed . I'm 50/50 on how to reattach this lug, clean it up and silver solder it like it was originally or cut a bevel and tig weld it back on with the right filler, proper pre heat and ramping down post weld slow cooling. What do you guys think?

.

For obvious reasons, I would use whatever method produced the least heat. :)
