I flew down to Yuma, AZ for a week vacation and to celebrate dad's 70th birthday with him and my mom.

At his birthday party, my uncle presented him with a special gift; a S&W Model M19-2, which was dad's first service revolver as a patrolman back in the 70's.

He carried it for a lot of years, then had to sell it to my uncle to pay for my younger brother's medical bills in the early 90's. My uncle kept it for all those years and never fired it. He gifted it back to my dad for his birthday.

It showed a LOT of wear, but the action was still smooth and the fit and finish of those old Smiths was impressive.

Just thought I'd share...

As a 70+ year old dad, I can tell you that days like that make you darned near bust with pride to have your son and the old gun come back home. That is quite an uncle too. Happy birthday dad.

What a great family story... a father who would give up a treasured possession for the good of a son, and his brother who would preserve it for him and return it as a gift. It sounds to me like you’ve got some pretty special folks in your clan!

That is a great story! I bought an old Model 19 when I first started in '89. I sold it in the mid '90s when our kids were young and we needed money. It's the only handgun I've ever sold and I deeply regret it. It's wonderful that your dad got his back.

That's a pretty neat story. I hope when I am that age I get all the guns I have lent out back! :)

That is a great story. The Model 19 was the most popular pistol when I was a patrolman in the ‘80’s. I have some great stories about shooting incidents involving the Model 19.

I built a flinter when I was about 21 or so. Sold it when I moved out of state more than 40 years ago. That was "the one that got away." Have regretted it for all these years.

Great story, Idaho, and thanks too, for your dad's service...those guys in blue have paid a lot of dues over the years, often, it seems with little credit nor thanks. All the best to you and your family. Rod
