I tried using .014 Amerimax, but it doesn't stay / crimp because it's too thin. I tried on top powder coat still not satisfied. The bullet shank is .400 + .014 + .014 = .428 and I size to .430 so clearly I need thicker like min. .015 preferably .016. Anyone know where I can buy a roll in this size? I am aware of Yonky's Foil and Coil but I wanted to find something local or at least in US.

Years ago, I bought some copper flashing at Menards. It measured .016 ...I don't recall what brand it was. I bought it for 30 cal GCs and it was too thick for 30 cal, so I got rid of it.

ok, I am little desperate :)))) but I needed to to test fit and this worked. I salvaged old CPU heatsink, it measures 15.6 thousands (.0156) thick, punches nicely and most important grips well. I still want to find a source of bigger roll. We don't have Menards in WA but I'll keep my eyes open for one when I travel.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200129/d0b44e32a8be3e0e36ccfc1e5d7f847d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200129/f5a5be0cf3de06832e158523ac245a2f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200129/5ba69c1bdd15ddf334e96317ead1d556.jpg

Is Yonky Foil&Cool still in business? I thought he posted awhile back, he was shutting down. Patmarlin is doing the same thing. He is feed up with dealing with power outages and the state of Komiefornia.

I use Amerimax .014" roof flashing from Ace Hardware with patmarlins checkmaker dies...

https://www.acehardware.com/departments/building-supplies/roofs-and-gutters/roof-flashings/58012

It works fantastic and makes very accurate gas checks. As accurate as any store bought checks I've ever fired.

I use it with my FreeChex III for .30 cal. Look on Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/FLASHING-ALUM-AMERIMAX-MfrPartNo-68104/dp/B0009SQFTS/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=amerimax+roof+flashing&qid=1587988072&sr=8-5

A (hopeful helpful?) note from a person who does not make gas checks (me!) -- is a fellow at one of the clubs I belong to used to use aluminum beer cans. I recall his voicing that, bion, all cans are not alike -- and while I do not recall the ones he used, I do recall the cans were blue in colour. This is all I know/recall -- but, if you have not, you may check out beer can aluminum? (Note: I'm not suggesting you buy a six-pack of each and every brand to do your research, although.... ;) ..)
Seriously -- best wishes!

Beer cans make the best gas checks for my PB flat base dies. Supreme accuracy and zero leading in my auto loaders and handguns up to 45 caliber.

I've got several calibers in PB gas check making dies.

I prefer PB checks with beer cans over standard gas checks even in rifle calibers.

Fine looking gas checks dimiprok. I made one with success in 35 cal for plain base. My edges are a bit ragged and not as clean as yours. I probably need to make another punch or holder because my tolerances must be a couple of thou too much.

I have gotten the gut impression that the coors screw top 16 oz cans were of thicker metal than other 12 oz pop top beer cans. They just seem stiffer to me. This is my impression.
