This must be the year of the muzzleloader for me, I was just gifted a circa late 1970s Thompson Center Renegade flintlock in .54 caliber. I do have a .530 round ball mold that casts balls at .533 which I will try when the weather breaks. However, I’m intrigued with some Minie bullets offered by Track of the Wolf, the Lyman 533476. A quick search here didn’t turn up any conversation on this bullet. Do any NSSA guys use this bullet in 54 carbines, perhaps? Should the 1:48 barrel in the Renegade stabilize this? Appreciate any thoughts/feedback.

I'm thinking the .533 minie probably going to be way too small for your bore.

I picked up a copy of this mold recently, but I haven't cast with it yet. I did some digging and it sounds like sizing is sometimes an issue. If I find the bullets are not quite fat enough I have read that a lot of guys have had success paper patching.

If you are just hunting deer or punching paper, try round ball. Might be worth trying Lee REALs and/or maxi balls as well.

Every TC I've seen has a bore close to .540". I don't understand how something so loose could ever shoot well. Maybe with a patch
