Rossi 92 Rifling Question

Bought my first Rossi today. It is an older Puma 92 imported by LSI, stainless 92 .44 Mag with a 24" octagonal barrel. The stock still has the ugly dark & muddy factory stain. It needs some TLC and a thorough action cleaning, but the balance feels awesome for offhand shooting.

I have a couple questions.

The rifling is the shallowest rifling I've ever seen. Is this normal for Rossi 92s?

Any idea what size diameter, weight & hardess cast bullets this puppy will prefer?

44 mag rifles are over sized
Could be .432 and a 32 twist

you all most need to neck size your brass... top 1/2 in or so or you over work the bottom brass ... or make it look funny .. call it top heavy

I let my .444 do the major thumping. Shoulder is still feeling Sunday's workout!

I have a pretty much the same rifle, but with the 20" round barrel. The rifling in mine isn't particularly shallow though. Mine does best with cast sized anywhere from .432" to 434". Pretty sure all the Rossis are 1 in 30" twist rate, even the older ones.

I would recommend a pad as it can kick like a mule with 300 gr bullets.

Looks like they have gone velcro now. A slip on pad if left on will ruin the stocks finish.

I've had two older Rossi .44s; one a carbine, the other a really nice octagon rifle with color case receiver. They both had very oversize bores. I swore off the .44 Rossi's.

My Rossi does kick with 240g jacketed and 300g cast. It's not much fun to shoot. I love it but anyone else gets about 5 rounds out and hands it back to me. I have this boolit https://noebulletmolds.com/site/product-category/432/434-298-fn-av2 that I size to .433

Load these with 19.3 2400 for about 1500 fps or 9.4 universal for 1200 fps. Ouch to fun. Both will give me an inch group at 50 yards.
