In the rifle section there is a thread "What is the last gun you bought?" Members will often post their handgun purchases in the rifle section.
So, why not have a section for handguns?

I'll go first. Last week I picked up a new S&W 63 with a 3 inch barrel and a S&W 629 Deluxe with a 6.5 inch barrel.

I wanted something capable & easily hidden for a "nightstand" arm. And hey, should I ever get broken into & it disappears; it's no Smith or Ed Brown.

Ordered a Sig P365 TacPac last night from a place in Texas. Comes with three of the 12-round mags and a holster for $50 more than the standard P365. The 10-round mag with finger extension felt good, but the slightly longer 12-round mag felt perfect. 12-rounds of a cartridge that is proven to be effective in essentially a pocket-sized pistol is hard to resist.

A Ruger super blackhawk with 4 5/8 barrel, about 4 years ago. It's given me trouble with leading ever since. Still pondering it. I gave 500 for it. I inquired about selling it to the shop I normally deal with and they offered 350. They said nobody shoots big bores round here and it's a hard sell. Been a burr in my backside for a while now and guess it'll continue.

Ruger .44's are notorious for having oversize bores. You want leading? Tight chambers, oversize bores and overly hard bullets are almost a perfect recipe. In a perfect world, the chamber throats in the cylinder would be a thousandth or two bigger than the bore and bullets about the same fit in the chambers. How does your revolver stack up?

Well I am retired and of modest means so it has been awhile since I bought anything firearms related. However, my dear Son recently presented me with a brand spanking new Glock Model 43 9mm...haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but he has plans to take the old man out for a range session very soon. Got to admit his generosity made my eyes water.

My throats are .433 and my bore .429 but it's got a tight spot at the threads. I sent it back to Ruger but they didn't address that, only recut the forcing cone. I plan to send it back again.

It's very unlikely that Ruger will do anything to remedy the thread choking. That's very common in factory revolvers. Best option is to fire lap it. Fermin Garza does a great rundown on properly fire lapping a revolver. Here's a link to his article.

Last May, I picked up this Smith Model 18-3 in .22 LR in almost new condition. Beautifully accurate, it's really tight, as many Smith .22's are and I have to keep the chambers very clean to make ejection easy. It's fully as accurate from rest as my Smith Model 41 of 1977 vintage and a fine understudy for DA work with my M19's and 66's. Best Regards, Rod

It's been a while...maybe a couple years since I bought one...it was a RIA 1911 in 38 super.
and sadly it sat in the gun safe until a month ago, when I finally started to load up some ammo for it.
The NOE 358-128-SWC (it looks more like a TC) pushed with a charge of Win 540.
I had it out to the range a few weeks ago..I fired 50 rds and only had one FTF, I put that same round back in the mag a couple more times and each time it wouldn't fully feed, I could not physically see the problem, so I just chucked that round.

I never liked the factory grips, so I sniped these off fleabay for $12
They didn't fit perfect, I had to get out a couple of hand files and do a little fitt'n to make 'em work.

I took this photo after I got it...those boolits are 135gr Ranch Dog. I haven't loaded any for this and probably won't.

A little over a year ago I acquired a NOS barrel for a K-32. Being impatient, I bought both a Model 14-3 and a 15-? While waiting for it to arrive. Since the profile for the 14 was what I needed, the 15 was sold to a member of this forum and my “newest” revolver is a recreated Model 16-3 built just like the factory sometimes did back then by altering an existing Model 14. I didn’t have the proper SB grips with square edge bottoms, so the grips are Roper style from Altamont. I think it came out pretty nice. BTW, the muzzle isn’t worn shiny, I just couldn’t eliminate the glare from the overhead light. :?

Well I have been reading about how you all love your .32 cal pistols. I’ve been looking at a few. A .327 mag revolver was out of my price range. Many things I want to buy are out of my price range. So I had accepted the fact that no .32 cal pistol was in my near future.

Then wouldn’t you know, I was given a MidwayUSA gift certificate for Christmas. When I first received it I thought great I can buy a few thousand primers and a few pounds of powder. So I started putting an order together. I was gonna match the gift certificate and double my order. Then I noticed that they were selling Italian Police surplus Beretta 81 pistols for $219, and I could get one for around the price of my powder and primer order. All bets were off I was gonna get a .32 ACP. It ain’t a .327 Magnum, but it should be plenty fun anyways. I Filled out the transfer paperwork on Saturday. I’ll have it in ten days or less.

I have the Lee 93 grain mold for 30-06 plinking. I hear that it is a little to heavy and long for 32 ACP. Looks like a new mold is my next purchase.

A friend of mine killed a bear with his Model 15. He loved his Model 15 and wore it around camp in Alaska. There were bears everywhere. They had to kill this one bear because it was getting too aggressive. The bear was shot with a .30-‘06, the shooter jerked the shot. The bear took off and everyone chased it. My buddy got up front and turned to point out where the bear was only to find himself alone facing the wounded bear. He popped the bear in the ear with six boolits and saw its eyes roll. My buddy got out of the right quick.

New P365 TacPac brought home today. So far, it fits me wonderfully and points naturally (even more so after I added the Hogue slip on grip). Amazing to have 12 rounds of 9mm in such a small package.

Tomorrow it gets put through its paces and accuracy checked. If it shoots as good as it looks and feels, then I will become a new P365 Kool-Aid drinker.

My latest handgun purchase was a well used S&W Model 639 for a custom project... I had most of a Model 439 upper left over from a previous project and wanted to build a retro-style two tone as my primary 9mm. This “Franken-Smith” project is starting to get out of hand though.

With one notable exception (a Model 60-4) all of the Smiths I’ve bought for most of the last decade have been as potential donors for custom projects. I’m beginning to see a pattern emerging here! 8-)

Classic Firearms had a shipment of Bond Arms guns in. I chose a 4" barrel "Earl" in .22mag.

Half a pound empty. Fixed sights but they work reasonably well.

At 20 feet they were all on the paper but tended to spread a fair amount.
At 10 feet I got decent groups, holes touching the previous shot hole, etc.

All in all for around 300$ I'm happy. I have another lighter weight option to carry if I feel the need.

Reloading is not fast, only 5 shots. Still for what it is, it appears well made, solid. Easy enough to learn to shoot it reasonably well at close range.

In other words I'm happy.

It is not my best shooting/grouping small pistol. But it has advantages of light weight, small size, fairly good trigger. And it goes bang when I pull the trigger.

A lot of people don't like the price of .22mag but I think a lot depends on what you compare it against.

Vs .22lr yes it is expensie.
Vs a shotgun shell for killing a varmint around the house it is IMO a wash. But will commonly run in the 24 to 30 cents per round average.

If you compare it to a higher powered rifle it can often be 3-4 times cheaper per round. In the right gun and situation it is capable of doing the same job.

So it all depends on what you compare it to.

YMMV

Freedom Arms Model 97 in 327 Federal mag. with a 7.5" barrel and micarta grips, it also has a factory action job.
My favorite load is a 98 gn dewc with 2.5 gn of HP-38. This load clocks around 820fps and will group about the size of a quarter @ 25 yards. I have shot 6 factory rounds just to experience that, but that's all I cared for.

Sig P365XL and a Hidden Hybrid IWB holster for it. I don't like sub-compacts, because all my fingers never fit on the grip without an extended mag, but the XL has a long enough grip that I have good, positive control even with the mag out. Stock tritium sights. And it shoots like a Sig.

It's small and light, 12+1 in a standard mag, and conceals easily in shorts and a t-shirt (with a decent belt).

Also, if I feel like getting all tacticool with it, they come pre-cut for the Sig Romeo Zero red dot. Two set screws to swap out the rear sights for the RDS. And I think it'll still fit in my holster.

Even with a 3.7" barrel I hit 49 out of 50 in the 9 ring first try without breaking a sweat at 15 yards. That'll do.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200914/7303d09f04e373ed3996e8dcae7cf500.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200914/2dbde72097046759c0bb9576b744f256.jpg

Every one I've shot has been an absolutely great shooter, consistent, very smooth action, feeds reliably; basically everything you want in a firearm. One if my kids has one in .40S&W and it easily rivaled my Sig P226 on target.

Unfortunately, when I'm buying I'm not shooting, so I'm only thinking about the field strip, the look, etc.

CZ got the three important things right; Inherent accuracy, ergonomics and a decent trigger. Needing a bludgeon to tap out the slide stop is different but in an emergency I would just use the magazine base plate. I like the lines of a 1911 better but something this easy to shoot well cannot be discounted imho because of it's form, which I find pleasing enough. Pretty good buy at $579.

Hi...
I picked up off of layaway a new to me Monson Dan Wesson blued .41Magnum with an 8-3/8" barrel this past weekend.

Put about 100 rounds through it on Sunday between my son and myself. Had to make a couple of adjustments to the rear sight and it rings steel plates at 25yds consistently.
Switched over to breaking big rocks up into little rocks on the 25yd handgun range berm.
Great fun...

I did not need another .41Magnum and I didn't need another Dan Wesson but then again when did need ever enter into the discussion.

I bought a Beretta M-51 for laughs and giggles. The sights are pretty poor, the safety is weird and it has an odd magazine release, but it goes bang every time. I am struggling to fight off the Sig P210 at my local Gander Outdoors. But I am getting...weaker, must resist--is this how kryptonite works on Superman?

I bought a couple over the last month. A 1949-vintage K-38 6" that has about the slickest buttery action and trigger I ever saw on a Smith. To go with it I couldn't resist a 1952-vintage K-22 that's almost as sweet. They both shoot like young rifles.

In addition, a 1932-vintage 6" Woodsman in about 95% condition tempted me into submission. Life is good.

A couple of weeks ago I stopped in to a local gun store that I have bought a lot of guns from and they just got in 5 USFA single action revolvers that were all NIB never fired . Being I am not really a handgun enthusiast I looked at them and could see they were quality made and being made in the USA made me want to know more about them. Later that evening I looked them up and found that they are a very hi quality copy’s of a Colt SAA and built at the old Colt plant in Hartford, CT. The prices on them was very good and my plan was to go back the next day and buy them all and just hold on to them a while. Well I play golf on a league and we had a early tee time and as soon as I was done I hurried to the gun shop as I thought they wouldn’t be there long and I was right, the hard to find models were already gone and all that was left was 2 USFA Rodeo models in 44-40 so I bought them both.
I wount say what I paid for them but it was about 1/3 what I see them selling for on Gunbroker as any of them I have watched have sold like hotcakes and that is for used guns and these are NIB never fired with all original papers etc. and the caliber 44-40 was a $ 150 option.
I bought these only as a investment as I will never shoot them but they are real prurdy.
I didn’t take any pics of them so I guess they don’t exist which is the way I prefer to keep them.

Last handgun BOUGHT was in 2017, a 9MM Shield w/tritium sights, cause of the favorable rebate at that time. The last "acquired" was a S&W MP22 .22 pistol, that was replaced by S&W cause the one I sent in had a piece of the action casting break off will in use (2019)

Picked up my last handgun about March this year- it's a Belgian manufactured 455 Webley @1890 vintage. Hard to tell you more detail because the markings are so obscure. While mechanically perfect ( it kind of looks handmade and very well finished ) I initially had all kinds of hassles trying to get it to shoot consistently. It must have the worst sights ever fitted to a revolver; fixed, really small and fine, and difficult to get a proper sight picture. I guess it only had to shoot minute of Zulu or something at point blank range, but the potential was there.

Originally chambered for the MK 1 cartridge, I can only get the shorter Mk 2 cases, and black powder is not commercially sold in Tasmania at present ( ??? ). Couldn't find a .455 mold anywhere, but reloading dies made by the Australian company Simplex are still readily available. Ended up getting a two cavity Lee mold listed as .456 calibre from one distributor, and started experimenting. By the way, a 45 long colt bullet will drop down to the brass case when inserted in the muzzle. It still has good rifling, and the cylinder locks up nearly as tight as my GP100, plus the trigger is very crisp and light on single stage.

First attempts were woeful, then I turned the projectiles back to front, drilled holes to replicate the original "manstopper " round, played with the seating depth, and it shoots really well for such an old pistol. Only using 3 grains of trailboss behind the customised bullet, and it hits with a substantial thump. Lots of fun....just have to figure my way around those sights without destroying the collector value.....

Not really one for shooting, but certainly an American icon. Best I can figure, based on the "REMINGTON ARMS CO, ILION NY" marking on the top rib it's a Third model, 2nd variation, made some time between 1888 and 1911. I don't know when or how it came to be in Letcher county in eastern Kentucky. Someone cared for it. It has been spared the ravages of black powder and corrosive primers. The hinges are not cracked, as they often are. The style of the partial box of Remington ammo came with it dates to early Thirties. Makes you wonder where the missing rounds went...into a stump or a chump? Half the fun of finding an old gun hidden in old furniture is wondering how it came to be there and what tales it could tell.

Well after a month of being without it and missing it. I got a notification that Buds Gun shop had got in a shipment of these revolvers with adjustable sight. Needless to say I jumped on it.

Have not made it to the range yet, been winter up here for the last week.

PS I intend to mostly shoot .22mag in it. Convertable is a cool idea but barrel that works for .22mag is too large for good accuracy in .22lr IMO.

269987Ended up buying the Colt 1911 series 70 today. Now going to have to rustle up some mags and a decent pancake or some kind of hi ride for it. I have no murder weapons or rigs. If I had to shoot somebody it would have to get done with a S&W revolver that weights 3 pounds. This is going to be my carry piece. Well I let my daughter who was moving down to North Carolina talk me out of my old Heritage Rough Rider in .22lr/.22mag.

Took me 20 years to figure out that the gun vastly prefered .22mags and would shoot nice tight bottom of pop can groups at 20 feet. Well after 3 weeks of missing that gun, I got an email notification that BudsGunshop had the 6 5/8ths in barrel model with adjustable sights in stock. I did not waste any time. Cost 60$ more for the sights vs the notch in the frame plain jane model.

Well I made it to the range with it yesterday. First 5 bullets were all in the 2" stick on bull at 20 feet.
Next 5 I shot a little faster and a couple were just on the edge. And then I put the .22lr cylinder in and it did just as well as the .22mags.

So happy I am, I have a 6" barrel single action back in .22mag for whatever needs doing. Be it woods walking, camping, plinking or varmints. Quality control was excellent IMO for a 230$ pistol. And I see that buds is sold out of them already.

Snagged a RIA Ultra FS 1911 on gunbrokers. Previously owned several high end 1911’s but was always concerned about scratching them. Wanted a reliable and “inexpensive” 1911 that had decent sights and trigger. This one will ride in the boat or ATV or sit on a table in the garage until it’s needed. The slide is dovetailed so changing the front or rear sights should be easy.

I also have one of these Colt retro 1911s [bought new] and it is a beautiful 1911 but be warned-wear gloves when you tear it down. Mine has cut me several times since I’ve bought it. I do shoot it and naturally clean it and it has the sharpest edges and corners. I don’t understand it as my other 1911s don’t have them. My grips were very mismatched so I contacted Colt and they sent me a better set.
