Restored a buddies H&R

My buddies grandpa passed away a few years ago now and he got his old H&R. The gun has been in his family for a long time and was all the grandsons first hunting gun. Because of this, the gun took some abuse. The goal was to remove the rust, replace broken parts, clean up the stock, and etch his grandpa's name on it. I had to grind past the pitting on the reciever and then buffed to 600 grit, etched, and electroplated the reciever and trigger in brass. He wanted the stock to retain the dings, scratches, and wear, but wanted the peeling clear coat removed. I very carefully removed the old finish and applied several layers of truoil and buffed to 7000 grit. I buffed all the pins, hammer, ect. and reblued them with cold blue. I think it turned out great.

Thanks guys! You'll like my next project I think. I'm going to restore a pre 1968 Stevens single shot. It's going to get new wood, gold plating, and some components will be hot blued such as this

I'm thinking the trigger, hammer, and action lever. The above photo was my first attempts with a spare part. I can now make it way more consistent. I can do straw, bright purple, and blue. Don't worry, I am going to harden the parts prior to bluing so they still hold up. I've got a handy Rockwell gauge at work that I can use to keep it safe and structural. Plus, this shotgun will likely just be a very nice display piece.

Here is the wood and the factory Stevens. I paid $40 for it as it had a missing firing pin. Easy peasy fix thanks to numrich

That is a great restoration. I've had several H&R's over the years and only have a 35 Whelen now but all had pretty nice wood. All shot fantastic, too.
