My oldest granddaughters other grandfather recently past away. He had a small collection of guns, mostly what an avg. hunter would have.
The family got together recently,"4 daughters" to split the guns among his grandchildren. They decided to go by age oldest 1st pick on down, my granddaughter is the oldest and avid hunter this was her pick. Savage 99 1915 22 hi power

What a coincidence. I found a few brass whilst digging in the cave Friday. They are head stamped Western 22Sav HP. Pm your address and they are yours(hers)!
She chose wisely.

She did well. She may not know loaded ammo is still available for that rifle-in Europe they call it 5.6x52R. I believe Norma and Sellier&Bellot offer it.

She brought the gun over during the holidays to show it to me, she said paw paw "I need some ammo so I can shoot this" I never heard of that caliber.
Thanks for the kind offer Texas pm sent.

It was a strange caliber using a 228 bullet. Needs to slug the barrel. Some called it the 22 IMP. Somewhere I saw a picture of a tiger taken with one. As I doubt if she can get a tiger license she may not be able to duplicate that feat. However Bell shot a cape buffalo with one.

What a great find!!

Lousy caliber to do much shooting with. From Wikipedia:

"As of 2007, the .22 Savage Hi-Power is no longer made in the United States. In Europe, the .22 Savage Hi-Power is called the "5.6×52mmR", and it's still made by RWS,[4] Norma, Sellier & Bellot, and Wolf Ammunition, and exported to the U.S. market. "

I would stock up on cases and bullets. It is great rifle and deserves to be used. Would make a fine coyote rifle IMHO.

Midway USA has Norma cases, no loaded ammo no .228 bullets. If Norma makes cases do they make bullets?
Raptor makes copper bullets for one and Buffalo Arms lists a lead bullet.
