I've always been a S&W 686 guy, but thought I'd try something different.

RUGER model 1771

4.2" 357mag. 7 shot, with the old style grips and fiber optic front sight.

$619 at grabagun.

I heard the early ones had issued with the brass rims bumping together and failing to fully chamber.

I tried every kind of brass I could find, nothing caused trouble

I ran about 200 rounds of max loads 158gr SWC loaded with H110 and 2400

...also ran some 125gr with 22gr H110

Ran it hard.

clanging 90 yard steel

shoots reliably and accurately

I LIKE IT

Clean guns are nice. I like the looks of a well used gun better. That last picture is great.

I like two tone guns, especially when its from powder residue! Nice wheelgun!

I have the 4 inch 6 shot that I am very fond of.

Congrats on the adoption. Great revolvers and they hold their own in the line up as you have discovered. Gotta love a good Ruger wheelgun.

I have a Match Champion GP100. Your results are very similar. Glad to hear it!

I installed a Wilson Combat spring kit and https://triggershims.com/

smoothed up the action using this website as a guide.

HOLY **** does it feel great.

I asked 2 unbiased judges, my 18yr old daughter and wife, to compare it to my old dash-4 686 custom.

both said the DA was about the same, and the SA trigger was better on the GP100

I like Dawson precision skinny 0.100" fiber sights. It arrived today

this is the same sight picture as my IPSC guns, M&P's ect.

( it's same hard on a dreary day to get sight picture photos with an old iphone 6 [lol] )

The GP100 might be my favorite revolver. As you found, the triggers are great. I don't know where the "not as good a a S&W can be" comes from. I've never been that impressed with S&W triggers, and I've never been disappointed with a Ruger.

Nice shooting. Those are tough guns, but 65 grains is a pretty stout load. :kidding:

That Dawson front sight looks great. I'm assuming the dovetail had to be altered. It fits better than OEM.
