I am looking for a mold for my single shot 45-70... 500gr’s or so would be preferred. Something with deep or many black powder lube grooves.

I am specifically hoping for a Magma or Accurate brand mold because I want one for Master Caster (long sessions of hand held molds wear on my bad shoulders).

Thanks for the help!

Would something like this work?

I would be more tempted to go with something along these lines

This one was specifically designed for the Trapdoor. It has the necessary lube grooves and should work well in any single shot configuration.

I use it for my Trapdoor. I get .462 out of it in 20:1 which suites its oversize groove diameter very well.

The old Postell style bullet of about 525gr has been around forever. That has been a long range favorite of mine for years. Hunting I use a Paul Jones custom design that drops at .460" and weighs 418.6gr unlubed 30:1.
This bullet has a .362 meplat and is devestating on anything it hits.

The only Accurate Moulds I have are for my 44-40 and 38-55. With I had more info for you.

I like the idea of the Postell but Accurate can’t make round things.... so, he would have to make a flat nose. Sigh...

I may just buy a Lyman or RCBS mold and have it converted to Magma. I currently use the Lee Spitzer mold which is fantastic but it is super undersized so I would like to see what a wider design does.

Accurate Molds numbers 46-405N, 46-500D and 46-530C boolits look good to me for use in your mold type. These have a sturdy lookin nose along with great lookin grooves that should carry plenty of lube.

For a great cheaper mold that casts very good boolits ( in my experience) is the 459-405HB boolit mold from Lee. It is a single cavity so it is nice n lite to use ... 30 bucks should get this mold with its own handles on the way to you.

Good luck to ya.

So, after all that chatting, someone went and sold me the mold in post 1 for $15 shipped.

Thoughts on how it might work out in BP 45-70?
