I would like to try blackthorn in my 1886 in 40-82 with cast bullets, would I use it in the same volume as with black powder? thanks

This is an old post. But I'll say yes. I've loaded BH 209 bulk the same a 2F black powder in my .50-95, .45-70, .44-40 and others. Its clean burning, non-corrosive and very accurate. I really like it. I dare say, its the best black powder sub currently on the market.

Amen to the above. I use it in my cowboy revolvers, muzzleloader, and my forty five seventy. Won’t use anything else.

I hear it’s a caseful. Not compressed much.

Old thead, I know but worth noting that volume should be comparable, but when weighing BH209, the manufacturer uses a 70% ratio.

For an 80 grain BP equivalent load (volume) the BH 209 charge will weigh 56 grains.
