Any ideas on the age of this .38 S&W ammo?

Copper primers are black powder, corrosive, probably pre-WW1

There's 27 rounds in the box and the store owner had the sense not to put the price tag on the box. I have an Enfield "tanker" in .38 S&W. What are the odds that a round will fire? Tempting.

If hammer hits them hard enough about half will go BANG~!

The lack of a date-code on the label indicates pre-1906 manufacture, while the general style indicates post-1900. Best estimate is somewhere in the middle.

warning is IF you try, to wait about 30sec as I have been there they may go bang about time you move the cyl

Yep, I fired some very old mixed 38S&W in a solid frame H&R. Can’t remember if I got a hang fire but 1 or 2 blackpowder cartridges sure let you know when they went off. About 1/4 were duds.

I have a lot of old and vintage ammo and though I'm tempted every now and then to fire some, I never do. But I gotta admit the most tempting ammo is this very old 7mm pinfire. I finally found a revolver that it's made for, but I haven't fired one yet.
