The .300 H&H runs light to heavy bullets accurately .... but the trend with the Win mag is that it will prefer heavier bullets starting with 150's.

But you can try it .... guns are individuals and you might luck out.

But barring luck ...... I would surely install the Limbsaver recoil pad.

And if you still want more relief ..... look at a muzzle break ..... but then you want to budget for electronic hearing protection ......

well here is the deal...its left hand and the price was right. it is near new, less than one box of ammo thru the bbl. it is pre 1995 but no one can tell how much older.

i snap up left hand guns(actions) when i can.
there is a plan in the back of my mine to have a short range rifle( ar15/17.5 " bbl) good to 300 yds or so, a medium range rifle...a 308 win with 175's good for 700yds or so(ar-10t), and then a 1000 yd rifle.......long throat 284, long bbl, 300 win mag or 7mm rem mag( i have a rem 700 7mm mag lefty, and now the savage 300 wm).

i have an '03 with a 3-9 scope(looepold) it does well....no problems..but not a leftie. i shot a 197-7x to take fourth place two weeks ago with it(beat by a 198-7x,198-6x, 198-6x) . i dropped 2 points trying for more x's.....my bad cost me the match.

the need is for a long range rifle, but in the mean time i think i will see if it out shoots the 7mm rem mag...but with a whimmpy load. the 7mm at 3000 fps with a 168 HURTS.

Mike, When I loaded 75 gr of H4831 and a 180 grain nosler or speer through my old 700 I never saw the need for another load. I also did not shoot it for fun, just at game and to confirm the sights but it was accurate. Gianni

Ditto what Gianni said. Years ago I bought a Savage 110 in .300 WM, and it was the most accurate out-of-the-box rifle I've ever owned......using his recipe. Unfortunately A guy offered me more than I paid for it and it's gone, replaced by a Ruger M77 Mark II.

I've had 3 300 WM rifles, a 40X, a Ruger #1 and a Savage Tactical.
Glenn Latham in THE FOULING SHOT, years ago, recommended 24/IMR4227 and 31141. It shot very well in all 3 rifles, 1" or so for 5 at 100 yards and equally well at 200. Also, 311299 with the same charge, or 15/Unique Dacron Wad shot very well.
The BELTED 300 WM case will not increase headspace when shot with light loads, as do the 30/06 etc.
I like the ctg., why am I buying a 308 Win?

Mike,

I was kidding - no reason in the world to explain picking a particular gun or round or
working up a particular load. There are a million stories and all are interesting.
My wife shoots lefty on rifles, so I understand the tendency to grab up good deals
in lefties!

I was just pulling your chain a tad, hopefully in good humor !

You know - pulling the bbl and putting a .30-06 one on would likely cost about
$100-150 and be easily and quickly reversible. Altho - thinking about it a little
bit more, you'd need to find a std sized bolt head to swap out, too, a bit more
hassle than my 7x57 to .30-06 swap barrel Savage since they have the std head
size. Bolt heads are easily swappable with Savages, also.

I have shot just one break equiped .300 Win mag loaded with 180's and it felt more like a .243 win ........

A KDF on that one ...... LOUD but otherwise VERY NICE!
