1 in 10" 30-06/Lee 200 GC'd PC'd/2400

Anyone try this combo? If so, what velocity were you able to get before accuracy fell off? Alloy info would be appreciated.

ive done 1-10 3006 pc-gc, 220gr with 24gr 2400 at 1800fps with accuracy as good as other loads. I didn't go higher cause that's max load in lyman book and I didn't wanna push fast powder. think I was using 2.5% antimony 1.5% tin aircooled or simmilar

I load that Lee boolit for my '98 Krag carbine (also 1-10 twist) over a healthy charge of H414 for right at 1900 fps...consistent 2" 100-yd groups and no problem tagging a 12" swinger at 200.

Added info: Checked my load/range notes and don't have any data for 2400 with the 200 gr. Lee but I shoot it in both the 7.5x55 Swiss (AA2015) and the 30-40 Krag H414). For both, boolits are PC'd w/Smoke's Clear and alloy is 90% Lyman #2 and 10% straight Pb.

I use 20gr of 2400 with 190grgc boolit in my 308, hope that helps

My limited experience so far is you can push PC bullets a tad faster than lubed of the same alloy. I have been playing with the Lee 180gn bullet in the .308. Lubed the accuracy falls off at about 2100fps. I have a couple of near MOA groups at 2400fps with PC including a 2.3" group at 200yd. I am using Varget for those loads.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook #3 for the .30-06 shows a max of 24gn for 2400 with 210gn bullet at 1827fps. 208gn bullet gets 26.5gn and 1968fps. 187gn bullet is 27gn and 2040fps.

I'd start at 16 gr 2400 and work up. You will probably find find a sweet spot between 18-20 grains. I can tell you that 26 grains of RL7 puts a smile on my face with a 200 gr cast boolit in the 30-06.

The service matches have a lot of .30-06 load data. Many of the results pages include specific rifles, barrels, bullet molds, alloys, lubes, powder and charges.

Not a 30-06, this target was shot @ 100yds 10-shot groups with a 308w. It shows how quickly 2400 will fall in/out of accuracy.

That's not the bullet failing, that's the difference in 1/2gr of powder with 2400. Same bullet/same rifle doing 1 1/2" 10-shot groups @ 100yds

I can ring a 10" steel gong at 200 yds all day long from the bench with 16 grs of 2400
and the Lee 200 gr bullet in my 1903 Rem with open sights. I love this load.

Ive found that with 2400 that you can start low, say 16/17 gr and work your way up a full grain at a time. Accuracy will probably be very good until it’s not. There will be no doubt when this occurs.

In my 3 different 30-06s 20 gr gets me 1800 fps with very good accuracy and terminal performance. 21 gr might be more deadly but questionable if you could hit it

Edit that’s with the 311041 not the boolit you mentioned. With 2400 I believe accuracy will go south long before you get into pressure problems.

Finally got to shoot a few with this combo. Used 97.5 Pb/1.5 Sb/1 Sn. water quenched after PCing. Didn't have much time so I tried 5 each at 20 and 21 grains. The 20 grain load went into 2.5" or so at 100. The 21 gr load put 4 into the same but I had a flyer 6" out. Not sure if it was me or the load, but I didn't call it. Fairly windy, but they seem to buck it very well. I certainly need to spend some more time on it. Once I find the top end, I'll take them to the range. I usually shoot a little better there, as the sun angle stinks at the house.
