Lyman makes the light minie for the 58s. Has anyone got these to work well?

Many skirmishers use that mould with good results at 50 yd. with target loads ie 40-50 gr. ff or fff. At 100 yd they tend to drift a bit with any wind. I usualy use a heaver minne. 575213 is closer to orgional C/W minne.That one holds up better out past 100.
I have had real good results with the RCBS Hodgen mould,or the copy cat Lyman north-south mould.

Like Jim says, it seems to do OK up to about 50 yds, but of all the minies I have tried in my .58, that little 315gr pill is the worst of the lot, when it comes to performance.....and absolutely the hardest to get to even group at all. It reminds me of a great big ol' air-rifle pellet.

The 575213 is much easier to work with in developing a good accurate load, and the heavier 575213PH is even better when using light charges of FFFg...in the 40 to 45gr neighborhood.

I "think" the problem is the thin skirt on the 315, but that's just a guess on my part. I have a mould made by "Chambers", that I got from DGW and I can't say I am thrilled to death with it..... but then again, I have also seen that same thin skirt on other moulds for that same boolit.....I suspect you'll find that same problem on every one of them, but I don't know that to be a fact.

.............45 2.1, I'd like to suggest the Lee Target Minie for plinking. It is NOT a long range slug and accuracy suffers between 50 and 100 yards.

This is the first 5 shots of our 10 round Burrito match. This was offhand at 50 yards from my P58 Enfield with the Lee slug and 40grs of Elephant 3Fg. Lube was a mix of Crisco, beeswax and Borebutter. Borebutter is one of several very excellent but somewhat expensive lubes. The Crisco was to stretch it out and the beeswax was to stiffen it up for our summer heat.

Another very good slug is the Lee 505gr. The moulds are inexpensive and the captured core pin allows fast casting without having to fumble around with a seperate one. I mentioned this slug in the PM, and cast well they can be very accurate to as far as your sights and ability will allow.

Well, I shot my 58 for the first time last Sunday. I can see why you guys like these things, its alot different than the smaller calibers, just plain NEAT! The little minie shot to the sights at 50 yards, but only hit a 2' x 3' plyboard once at 100 yards. I guess its going to be a 50 yard plinker and game bullet. My rifle bore is 0.575" and I can't try some of the samples I have until Buckshot gets a push thru to me, but I was able to try some 575213 clones from an unknown mold as they did fit properly. I had quite a bit of fun shooting knots and stones at 70 to 100 yards, with the rifle shooting about 3" low and a couple inches to the right with 70 gr. of 2f. I understand thats the C/W loading, but with about a 3F granulation. Thats what i'll try next time. Late deer season is this weekend, so i'm going to carry this one and try for my deer with it. Wish me a good hold and luck seeing a doe.
