Let's say you go to a gun show and you spot a gun/rifle. You instantly buy it. Money isn't an issue, and its exactly your dream gun. What would it be?

Im seeing alot of gun show posts, so im just wondering. Im going to a show this saturday.

I would really like a large bore 1885 high wall, maybe even a sharps. But I know thats just wishful thinking.:-(

I would say that legality would FAR FAR FAR more be a problem than cost. Then again if I'm going for the gold it's going to be field artillery or a rock and roll MG-42 (I'd gladly settle for a nice MG3 or Yugo M53.) Why stay small?

In a lever, it would probably be a Uberti 1873 sporting rifle in .45 Colt
a bolt action would have to be a CZ 550 or 557 American chambered in 6.5x55

A Marlin 1894, 44 magnum with a 1 in 20 twist that was in a take-down format.

But, this gun does not exist and never will as long as the powers that be are deaf to their customers requests.

Actually that just happened to me last month. I went to a small show and out of all the tables there was only one older guy that had things I was interested in. He once had a home shop with machine tools to do home gunsmithing with but since moved and had a few unfinished projects for sale. I have been looking for a Win. Low wall for a long time with a bad barrel but good wood and good working action at a reasonable price.
So this guy has a nice low wall that he already rebarreled to 45 Colt (new barrel in the white ) added a new Marbles tang peep sight and globe front sight and the wood is in great shape and is the shotgun butt style that I wanted also..
As I was looking at it the guy was apologizing for it being unfinished while I am thinking this is great exactly what I have been looking for then he says if you really think you would want it I'll take $ 450 for it. Well I almost broke my arm reaching for my wallet to pay him. He also offered a T J' s barrel liner 27" long for a 38-55 he's had for sometime for a really good price and even though I didn't need it I bought it also.
If I would have brought more cash I would have bought more of his stuff but he said he would be back in the spring show so maybe I will go back then if my mind hasn't changed on buying more guns and parts. I have been working for the past couple years to downsize my guns I don't shoot much and have a table at a gunshow the weekend of Jan. 18-19 but when I find a gun like that low wall even on my death bed I will have to buy it.

Failing that, a pristine Savage M1899 Montreal Home Guard rifle on a table presided over by a guy who collects Winchesters and hasn't a clue that the gun is worth $8000 not the $800 he has on it.

Savage 99 T's are pretty rare but to me very unattractive . If you seen a gun that was worth 10 times what the seller was asking for it wouldn't you beg , borrow , or steal the $ 800 to buy it ? Just sayin ? Or is this dreaming ?

Had two 1895’s in 405 WCF. First was a solid frame shotgun butt with a climbing Lyman. Hunted Moose with it several times, never connected. At the time Barnes originals were the only jacketed bullets available. Rifle had a propensity for stringing vertical. 3”-4” at 100 yards. Second 1895 was a takedown, shotgun butt that also had a climbing Lyman. Bought it from an older man that had spent years in the Alaska Bush with it. He worked for Alascom and spent years working up and down the Alaska Peninsula installing Micro Wave Repeater Stations. While working on these sites he carried this takedown rifle in a well built but compact plywood box. Any Brown Bear that ventured to close was dispatched with this rifle. Both are long gone. Wish I still had one.

I would say $450 or so American would be my maximum.

A friend had one in .35 Remington, with an Indian-head penny inletted into the stock. Don’t remember what he paid for it, but he bought it before the “investors” had gotten to that model. I saw one in .25 for a little over twice what I would be willing to pay, in a gun store that went out of business shortly thereafter. Always wondered what happened to it.

I paid more then double that. They are extremely rare with unique actions. I read in articles and forums that the number of them still in action is close to 1000. And that collectors and museums are looking for the remaining serial numbers. They weren't well documented.

Well... I went today. I always go up every row 100 times just to make sure. My girlfriend doesn't find me funny...

I saw a sharps 50-90. It caught my eye on the first walk up the row. I walked down two other rows and had to go back to see the rifle. TO LATE. it was sold. a man in his 30's kissed the rifle saying that it was his dream to own one. 2100$. Damn... Silver forend cap, octagon barrel..etc.
Several winchester 1885 replicas. I would really love an original large bore like the sharps, but no luck....
there was a nice 1895 with some blue left on the barrel in .35 win. Not familiar with the cartridge. 1100$

I feel kind of guilty because I have at least a couple of the "dream guns" named here and I got them cheap.

But one that I won't have to wish for was one that I got two years ago. A fellow member of my pistol club brought down an old Winchester 1894 to sell to our range on a Saturday when there were were only a few people there. He ask if I was interested in a Winchester 94. At first I said no, I ready had one. Then I noticed that it was a take down model. And then I noticed it had a half magazine and a pistol grip stock. On closer inspection I saw a Lyman model 21 sight.

The seller said "make me an offer." I said $300 and he said OK. He agreed to wait while I raced to the the bank and the ATM. When I got back to the range we concluded our deal and I took my new rifle home wrapped in an old blanket I had in my trunk. (The $300 didn't include the case.)

What I got was a well worn but not abused 1906 vintage Winchester Model 1894 Extra LightWeight take down rifle with a 22 inch barrel in .30-30. The bore , after cleaning, is shiny and like new. The rifle is as light as a carbine and handles like a fly rod. The gun is a joy to shoot with mild castloads , either 90 grain bullets for indoor gallery shooting or 170 grain cast bullets out doors at 100 yards.

I realized thai would never find something like this rifle at a gun show. Smarter and quicker buyers than me would have snapped it up in an instant. I guess I have used up all my luck.

Second up would be one I sold and continue to wish I had back. Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 in 300 H&H. Not because of what a sweet gun it is, certainly that, but because of the story. He was a Canadian and when back from WW2 scrimped and saved then bought it to feed his family on carbou, moose and bear as times were tough.

My dream rifle, well I missed out at a gunshow once! This little old man was strolling around with a 336 SC in 35 Rem, a waffle top at that! It also had a Refield peep sight, and a half box of shells. The rifle was in great shape, the only problem I didn't have the $300 that he was asking. I followed that guy around for the better part of an hour, I was trying to think a way to come up with the money. I seen a good friend there, and begged him for the money, and he loaned it to me, and I'll be darned by the time I found the guy he had just sold it! So that taught me a good lesson, never go without cash!

Passed on a Marlin Cowboy once, in 44 mag. for $450. I had the cash, but was looking for a High Wall in 38-55, so didn't buy it. Regret letting that one pass too!!

Welcome to the forum. I’m so glad you found my misplaced rifle- return it to me at your convenience!

Thanks for the welcome! Sadly, the Marlin is still in the "dream" stage.

The factory never made a Model 94 in 22 Hornet. Too long to go through the action and all the factory bullets are pointed. They did make a 218 Bee in the Model 1894CL; I have one I bought new in the early 1990's. W/ 6 power Burris scope it shoots minute of walnut @ 100 yards using Hornady 45 grain flatpoints loaded in front of Accurate 1680.

I have already had a couple picks but a gun I have been looking for for a long time is a Mossberg model L.
It was a low priced single shot 22 rifle that had a martini like dropping block action and was only made for a couple years. I need another gun like I need a hole in my head but I have always wanted and liked oddball things and a model L is one of them.

I like guns, but love reloading tools. My gunshow dream find is a complete Ideal Number 2 lubricating press.

I would like an old press too. Im building a small cabin in the woods and would love a small press. Nothing big, single stage even. Any recommendations in the older stuff?

A Tru Line JR or a 310 set would be at home in your little cabin in the woods , or set up in front of your TV at home .
