Hi Guys,
I have a old Ideal single cavity mold thats marked 280 411 and
I can't find any info on it at all. It's a spitzer design and appears
to not have a gas check. I can't even find it listed in some of the
really old Lyman manuals. Any help out there?
Thanks for any info in advance,
Denny

Also shown in the tables in my copy of Lyman #41.

You are correct, it was intended for the 270. I can't imagine what it was used for.

According to the Lyman Handbook of Cast Bullets, it was used in the .270 Winchester for such small game as grouse and squirrels. Their correspondent said he used 10 or 11 gr of 2400 with the bullet unsized. The bullet weight was around 138 gr.

I have a similar unmarked mould that I have used to poke holes in paper, does that count?

The 280411 and 280412 are both listed in the mould reference tables in the back of Lyman's Reloading Handbook 46th edition.

I've got the 280411. I haven't gotten a chance to work with it yet, but my intention is for coyotes out of a 6.8 SPC Encore.

From the Lyman Handbood 41st edition. 135 grain bullet . top punch 411( good luck finding this) set screw 450. and you are correct, it is not a gas check bullet.

Looks like a fine long range boolit to me... If it fits the bore and chamber I sure would be launching it. I would not want that thing to tickle me at any range.
