Hello this is my first post here but I’ve been lurking for a little while. I’ve been casting for my revolvers for a few years and now want to try some for my 22-250. I used to keep a ruger 10/22 in my truck for varmints and plinking; and I would usually shoot it several times a week whenever I had an opportunity. One day about three years ago I tried to kill a coyote and all I had with me was the 22lr I hit it multiple times but it got away. When I got home I swapped it out for the 22-250. The 55 gr soft points at 3850 FPS make short work of coyotes but I rarely see one and it’s just to loud for everyday plinking crows and other small vermin. So I wound up with a case of the wants for a 22 hornet, after looking for one a while I had a thought maybe I could load the 22-250 down to 22 hornet velocity. So I’ve done some checking in my manual and some googling (it led me here) and I think I want to try a Lyman #225415 or maybe a lee 90459. My rifle is a tc venture 22” 1 in 12 twist. What do y’all think?

I load mine down to 1900 fps for shooting cast lead bullets GC. The report is considerably less than a 3500 fps. varmint load. Its very accurate out to 200 yds. definitely coyote Moa. I am not sure if the knock down or stop them dead in their tracks ability is there. I am confident that with a well placed shot the end would be near. They do take P-Dogs right off the mound. I think you would have no problems and could have a lot of fun doing it. A coyote is thin skinned and small boned. It can be done with a 22 LR out to a 100. Again with a well placed shot.

1900fps sounds good to me. Most of the time the coyotes are within 200 yds.

Try the 225415 with a hollow point!

I'm a big fan of 225415 (the current 55 grain version) in .22-250. 1800-2000 fps is a good velocity level. Basically the speed of a .22 Magnum with 38 percent more bullet weight.

My first 22 mold was the Lyman 225-415 GC for use in a Mini 14, later an AR 15. When I started powder coating, I was able to wring great accuracy through the Mini 14 and the AR but messing with those pesky little gas checks was a PITA. So, I bought an NOE 225-62 RN smooth sided just for powder coating. My old Ruger 180 Model will eat just about any cast boolit load but the AR was more finicky. It seems the gas volume/pressure wave is just a bit faster in duration so the AR with Carbine length gas is just not working consistently. I could up the powder charge but them the groups start enlarging.

For now, I just shoot cast through the Mini 14, an AR 15 Pistol with pistol length gas tube, or a carbine with a reduced strength recoil/buffer spring. I will be trying a bit harder alloy than ACWW/soft lead at 50/50 mix to see if a harder alloy helps the groups stay tight when pressure is increased. For now, the loads that run 2250 fps in the 16" Mini 14 are going 2450 fps from a single shot .223 Rem. If I want 'tack driver' I need to either toughen up the PB NOE boolit or deal with the pesky little gas checks for the Lyman boolit. An 8 lb ingot of Hard Cast would make a lot of boolits that I could 'shake and bake' and send down range to kill tin cans.

Well I ordered a 225415 mold so further down the rabbit hole I go!

You will have fun and the gas checks are not that bad to get on I use a Dillon primer tray to put them in and get upright then dip my PC'd bullet into some bullet lube then stick it to the bottom in the tray then size. Works without PC also.
