The plan is to begin shooting Wild Bunch. To that end i just bought my first 1911.

I have never owned a 45 anything, and I'd like to get myself a mold. I've used and don't mind the LEE 6 cavity mold, they do a decent job, for the money. I think a 230 gr bullet is what I need, and I'd like to stick with sizing and lubing with my 4500. However I like that the TL-452-230-2R has a step from the body to the nose of the bullet, and I'm thinking that the TL grooves will probably hold enough grease to get the job done, without leading.

Does anyone have any experience with this bullet?

That boolit works fine in my 1911 pistols.

I do just that....lube in my lubrisizer with this bullet, that is.

The bullet effectively duplicates factory ball profile at 1.265” OAL.

If your gun will not feed this bullet something is wrong with it. A six cavity makes for fast production. Sizing ensures the occasional oversized bullet does not cause chambering problems.

I’ve had no issues with this in both 45’s tumble lubed or powder coated.

I started with bullet and it worked great I pan lived it for a long time and it worked with alox and pan living. Once I got a 4500 it was total happiness and shot 1000's of them. Buy it with confidence it is a great design

I can say that bullet works well in my sig p220, but I do not yet own a 1911
I powder coat mine and size in a Lee push through sizer

I've used that bullet for years in my 1911. I tumble lube the bullet with lee's liquid alox and load it over 5.5 grains of Unique. Great load!

While not that specific Lee TL bullet I cast and size several TL bullets in my 450 Lyman sizers. I suggest soft lube not any harder than BAC unless you use a heater for the lubrasizer to get good easy lube flow into the small grooves w/o having to apply excessive pressure on the lube. I use BAC down here in AZ but my reload man cave is a pretty constant 70 - 75 degrees. Up north where it would get down in the low 60s in my garage I used a NRA 50/50 lube, both w/o using a heater.

Well I just bought this mold. I got it in a six banger mold. I’m just getting started with 45acp. I searched and read quite a bit about this bullet. I will cast some of these on a dry day in the new year.

From what I have read this bullet should feed well in almost any gun; regardless of how it is throated. That’s the reason that I went with this mold, reliable feeding. There are 200 grain bullets that use less lead. There are truncated cone bullets that might be more accurate. But far and away this seems to be the Lee 45acp bullet that most everybody seems to think feeds the best. I’ll find out pretty soon.

Thanks, time to order.

Does it matter what size they are sized to, I was going to buy a 452 for sure, and perhaps a 451, as my grooves are under 452 by a whisker.

I have that same mold, also a 6-banger. It is the only one I have for my RIA .45. On top of 4.5 grs. of Titegroup or Red Dot, it does just fine.

I shoot the same one over 4.5 to 5 grains of Red Dot. No issues at all.
I use Bll, but any good soft lube should work fine.

I size at .452 [except for my Para P-14 which has a very tight Match chamber] and have been for 50 years and it feeds and fits every M1911 and other guns I tried over the years and that has been a lot of them. To meet the Wild Bunch power factor for 45 ACP 4.5 gr of either Bullseye or Red Dot will work fine.

Lee also makes a 45 cal. "1R" mold. The 1R has a slightly different nose shape and the bullet must be seated much deeper to plunk (chamber) correctly, just a bit of info. I have a Lee TL-452-230R that I have used in 3, 45 ACPs and can't remember any failures to feed, at all. Actually after the first 100 or so rounds with this bullet I had no reason or idea to think about the bullet, it just worked. I started loading with Lyman's data for their 225 RN and had no problems. I didn't start with Lee's tumble lube design but I did soon try a few. I lubed most with 45-45-10 and have pan lubed some with either my "Speed Green" or C-Red. My 44s have fired a lot of Lee's TL-430-240 bullets...

FWIW; I also have a TC 239 Lee mold and have had no feeding issues with my Ruger P90, RIA 1911 or HP Carbine...

That LEE TL-452-230-2R should work fine in any 1911. Some have issues with SWCs, HP, RNFP but all 1911s should work with this classic RN design. I find #68 more accurate and most 1911 should feed that too but not my FNX45 though. Usually short steep ramp like my FNX45 will have more issues then lets say CZ97 which has nice long ramp and not as steep. LEE TL-452-230-2R is a good place to start though just PC , size and your done.

That's a dandy of a choice...never had a complaint with that one.
First one on the left is a standard ball round, they are similar in profile.

But between that and the Lyman 452374 RN I like this one the best.

Hey there, don't they like pink boolits in Pollack Pines? All kidding aside, great pictures of your loads, cool colors. Personally, I use the Lee 452-228 1R in basic black (mostly) but zombie green, purple, and pink are friend's favorites.

Always go bigger. I size 0.452" for all my 45acp.
