Hollywood Automatic Shotshell Loader

Came across this and just had to have it. Now I have to figure out how it works. Most of it seems pretty straight forward except the wads. Any input will be appreciated.

On this stock machine, you hand place the wads. These were made when the use of fiber and cardboard wads were still fairly common, and plastic wads were just coming into vogue.

The one I used for the county had been converted to feed the plastic wads via an rectangular aluminum tube, where the wads laid on their sides and were turned to feed into the hull automatically when the handle was pulled. It worked best on wads that were straight, and the petals didn't flare. The hardest to feed were Winchester AA wads, because the petals flared and would cause too much drag. I solved that problem by making a follower for the wad column.
