I have a smith wesson 625 45 auto rim. That needs a new mold HELP

the saeco or h&g #68 are good choices or if you are planing to shoot in matches that require fast reloads with full moon clips and 45 acp cases use a 230 rn from the big 4 . bob

I've had a S&W 25 in 4 inch and 625s in 3 and 5 inch. I used LYMAN 452460 for awhile, but felt "I had arrived" with a six cavity HENSLEY & GIBBS #68 mould 'way back when. It has served me well since the late 70s.

Now I think I would buy a LEE TL 452-230-TC or a TL-452-200-RF, or similar conventional lube groove moulds. There are #68 group buys...one closed recently. You could also buy a LEE 452-252-SWC or 452-255-RF and be well equipped.

The Ballisti-cast, successor to H&G, are excellent, but expensive. The Lyman are 4 cavity and have some similar designs, and in iron. They're an affordable alternative to the LEE.

I have rcbs 201 swc and lees 200 swc But i am get so much bullet jump even with a crimp bullet. I also have lees 200 rnfp. So I though may be one more mold thanks everone:drinks:

I am happy with the Lyman 452423 and the GB of the same. Roughly a 235 grain Keith SWC.

Also happy with the SAECO 453 mold, a 235 grain WC. Cuts nice holes and hits with authority.

StrawHat: I have a lyman 452424 But i can't get to to shoot that well yet. The 200 for rcbs is best so far but i am getting bullet jump. I have lee FCD die i am going out this week end and trying it out if it is not cold hereI i also have a redding crimp die for auto rim coming in the next week i hope :)

That is normally used in the 45 Long Colt cartridge. A 255 grain Keith.

Search this forum, I am sure someone else has used it in the 45 AR or ACP.

Brian Pearce had a loading article in a recent handloader magazine on the .45AR, and included loads for the Keith bullet. I have also seen loads using 2400 in up to 13 grains, but that is hotter than Brian suggests. In fact, an old article by Chuck Taylor in a "Handguns Annual" magazine lists 14.0 grains of 2400 for 1060 fps out of a 5" barrel. The new 2400 is hotter burning, so that is surely a bit hot these days. I think Brian suggested around 11 grains of 2400.

Throat diameter would help. If it is .451 or .452 then the ACP molds
should work fairly well. If it is like my old 1937 Brazilian, with .454-5
(IIRC, I'm not at home) throats, it will likely do better with molds intended
for later model 45 Colt ("long colt") which are usually .455 or so as cast.

Mine likes 452423 as cast with a very hot load of Unique. I'll leave it to
research what Elmer recommended, as it is over the book nowdays. Mine
shot better and better as the load increased with Unique, and the groups
moved closer to the fixed sights, too.

You might try the RCBS 230 rnfp CM. Works for me.
