i was hunting a 10 pt whitetail(which i didn't get, either archery or rifle season) so my story is short. i passed up smaller bucks and does on my "hopes" of getting him. since i already have two deer(dad got a 8 pt and doe) in the freezer, i let my doe tags go to the last day. naturally, it was raining Saturday(last day), so i either had choice to go to my stand and put up an umbrella or i could go to my shop, open up the back doors and watch it rain on the hopes of getting a deer. i choose my stand instead. two hours later and soaked(despite umbrella), i was about to give up and call it season, when she showed up. i was thinking she would fit in my freezer quite nicely, so my win m94/williams fp sights in 35/30(JES Reboring) lined her up and sent a 200gr fn gc(bullshop) over 20.0gr of 2400/dacron going 1726fps from the muzzle. 30+/- yards away, she got my message and ran about 15 - 20 yards till she gave up the ghost. my message was behind the shoulder, broke one rib, took out the lungs and then it exited with another rib. the exit wound was about 3/4"+/- and didn't blood shot any meat.

then i called my brother and he gutted it(thank you says the cripple) and drug it out to my polaris ranger. i was quite pleased with the deer hoist. it took my deer off the ground and my brother was pleased when i got it to the truck. just back her up, put the hind quarters in the truck bed and crank her down.

Great story! Congrats on the bambi. I have a '94 I want to send to JES but I can't make up my mind between the 35/30 and the 38-55.

I think either caliber would be an excellent conversion.

Good Hunting story 444ttd. I admire you for setting a goal of a nice big 10 point that "might have been", and having the patience to hunt and wait for it. Those last day deer stories are nice. I'm glad you were able to put additional meat in the freezer and your 35/30 with the 200 grain boolit did a fine job sounds like. Just think, there is a chance that next year he (the 10 point) might be a tad bigger and you might still get him. Sounds like you still have a chance with your bow. At any rate you had a good season and a great hunt. Congratulations.

Well told!! A good adventure with meat in the freezer, congrats. I was watching for a rough 94 to send JES but ran across a nice BB94 instead, would still like a 35-30...,
A bit OT, but could you post another link to that hoist? Had to remove/replace a rear tire on my small tractor today, seems like that could be a good “helper” for next time!

Thank you, I have always just manhandled stuff that I didn’t REALLY have to use the tractor boom for. I am trying to act smarter now, after 2 knee surgery’s, with age comes sense, theoretically.
Assuming your bullet is an RCBS “clone”, mine is an NOE version and runs about the same from my M14 and M141 pumps, results about the same too:)

Success is the best trophy. It has been 5 yrs. since the last time I was able to hunt. I am very happy for you and envois also enjoy it as long as you can

Good job....the challenging conditions just make it that much more rewarding...plus make for a better story....I remember well a doe I got with a muzzleloader in similar conditions....Congrats!

+1 for JES. He did a .38-55 from a Win 94 for me. Now I'm just hankering for a .35-30. Need has nothing to do with want. They all work pretty good. Well told story. Congrats.

I have a marlin 336 30/30 that Jes rebored to 38/55, with a Williams peep sight, it is a sad hammer. Congrats on the deer.

Good job! I learned long ago that it's hard to shoot the big bucks if you keep shooting the first thing to come along. Your patients will be rewarded.
