Used for sand blasting, but used to sell a lot of it to an older gent that mixed it with potters glaze of some sort and fired it to make custom whet stones. Georgous pieces and prized by thise that had one.

Aluminum Oxide is a grinding material used in grinding wheels lapping compounds and sand paper. I also seem to remember it being used in the thermite welding process and fireworks.

Depending on the particle size, it could be useful for polishing. If it is too big (most likely) then it would only scratch the brass.

I use several pounds per year, in 1200 grit as the final polish on agates and it makes them sparkle!

BACKWARDS, "Thermite" MAKES aluminum Oxide, You START with Iron Oxide and Pure Aluminum and end up with Iron and Aluminum oxide.

Aluminum Oxide, usually sold as "Alumina" is used as an abrasive.

Back in the day when had a machine shop, used aluminum oxide to etch molds for shoe soles, for a local boot mfg. Sand blasting the aluminum molds gave them a texture that would show on the boot soles after they were molded and glued/stitched on the boots.

That would be rock-polisher's dream! Good stuff for final finishing of stones as pictured above.

Depends on the grit size!

I have 5 pounds of it I use in my polishing process.
