Did Winchester use the flat bar/leaf spring as the main spring all through its production or did they somewhere along the way switch to the coil over bar assembly that Rossi uses?
Thanks

As far as I know they stayed with the flat spring the whole time. It sounds like somebody might have tweaked it for cowboy shooting.

Homestead Parts shows 3 'kinds' of mainsprings for the '92, all flat springs.

So based upon that, I'm gonna agree w/1Hawkeye

As above - but, if you've seen one, it's could be that somebody swapped in the coil spring setup from a Miroku/Winchester Model 1892.

Thanks for all of the replies. I thought it was flat bar all the way through but I was talking to a fellow at a recent gun show and he clams to have seen one with the coil over rod affair like the Rossis. It must have been some kind of conversion

Yep it was a conversion of some kind. Iv'e had 92's from first year production serial #388 up through the 1930's production and they all have had flat mainsprings. Maybe the new ones have a coil spring but the old ones didn't.

Yes the Miroku 1892 Winchesters have a coil spring over a spring strut.

Non of the original Winchester's had coil springs.

Greetings
I have looked at a bunch of old 1892s (owned 6) and all had the flat spring.
