200gr. Full wadcutter Rim Rock boolits. I don’t wish to use my remaining IMR Pb powder for this load. I have Unique, Universal, Red Dot, Trail Boss, N320 & N340 powders on hand. Any suggestions for a 800 fps load? I am using S&W and Rugers so revolver integrity is not an issue.

I just came across 8 lbs. of PB. What is your wadcutter load?

What revolver are you shooting these in?

For a standard-pressure load safe in the Charter Bulldog and older pre-WW2 revolvers 5 grains of Bullseye, Red Dot or Trail Boss will work fine with up to a 215-grain bullet. In a stronger, modern revolver you can increase the load a grain.

The guns are S&W and Ruger, modern. I was worried out the short cartridge oal with the wadcutter bullets raising pressures to unsafe levels.

4.5-5.0 grains of RedDot will shoot nice tight groups. RedDot is a unsung treasure when it comes to the 44Spl. My GP100 loves an NOE 230 grain WC over 4.5 grains.

What is the seating depth (not the oal of the cartridge) of that 200 gr WC when seated in the 44 SPL?

The psi will vary greatly from a full WC seated flush with the case mouth to one with a WC nose seated to about half the bullet length to a crimp groove.

A picture of the bullet or the mould drawing would be nice?

Here it is.
It looks like its not quite flush, the crimp groove is, by my calibrated eyeball :), approximately .090" down from the front.
